Submittable

Because not everyone knows how to find stuff like that.

One way you could look for it is Submittable.

Submittable.com is the main way writers, I think still, look for opportunities.

And it can give you a sense of where you can send your poems.

And it can show you, do you have to pay to send your poem here? Or things like residencies or scholarships.

And then my thought would be that between November s- 2 and 8, so you have over a week to review and score and submit.

So what happens is, procedurally, is I send all the applications to you all so you can review them through this new system we're gonna use this year called Submittable.

Um, you would each individually score all those applications in that platform.

It's fairly straightforward, fairly easy.

Um, and that would be done on the, um, November 9 Parks, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting.

And then December 1st is when we take it to the City Commission for their final approval.

Um, this is the, uh, platform I mentioned called Submittable, which is an online grant pra- program that I'm very familiar with through arts for many, many years.

Um, s- makes it a lot easier for everybody and very simple to score.

Push it off to someone else so you can free up a moment.

There's also nothing that makes you think of the things you want to change about something, like sending it out to Submittable or to a friend as soon as you share it.

Yeah.

You think of more things that you would change.

I see him.

He's on the screen looking a lot like the picture, uh, that I'm probably gonna post for the cover, and it's also in Submittable.

And I haven't really shared much about monarchs on Instagram this week because it kinda got dark and depressing.

After Nemo emerged with his crumpled wing, I hoped that it was a fluke, that that was gonna be the only one.

You didn't have to whatever.

I feel like Submittable does democratize it somewhat because you can submit from anywhere and it doesn't matter, you know, if you have an in or if you know anybody, you can just like put it into the portal.

But again, I feel like that pile is probably enormous.

You know, like I used to see the piles of stuff that people would mail in and it was like, I really don't know how, if there's like an industry standard anymore.

We were operating cheaply enough that to pay it out of pocket wasn't really a big deal.

But as the journal started to grow and as things changed within the industry, so the biggest deal was Submittable, which is a tool platform that people use to submit their poetry, fiction.

It used to be free.

For the magazines, right? For anyone.

So we recently also started offering editing services.

And so a good deal of our revenue comes from editing services.

And the other thing about working through Submittable is they take a percentage of every single sale.

Yeah, they take 99 cents plus, I think, 5% or 1%.
