So this idea of the banality of evil, the philosophical idea, was something that fascinated me already when I was a student.

And the second thing is that the first time I was asked by a company to do a training for their managers in 1999 when I still was a PhD student.

I was asked to work with what they at that time called their young high potential.

So these were young managers on a fast track career.

And I was supposed to work for one day on the ethical principles of the company and help them to understand how they can live them.

And in the break, one of the breaks, three of these people came to speak with me and they said, well, we have to pay bribes.

If we don't pay bribes, we don't get contracts.

How is that possible? And what we call the Dark Pattern is a collection of nine building blocks.
