but they were very influential in convincing the leagues that this could be great business for them and that they could spin it in a way that as we were discussing sounds like they're embracing gambling to protect their games that was a very effective argument in the uk with the english premier league you know this idea of look at all these screens we've got you know monitoring all sorts of odds movement and data on individual bettors, how wonderful a tool to catch people betting when they shouldn't be.
D
8:20Danny FuntSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
And if you, you know, do a demonstration on Capitol Hill as Genius facilitated or Sport Radar facilitated, it sounds really compelling to the average person or the layperson.

Although, interestingly, and Adam will back me up on this, in almost every feed contract we've ever signed, They don't take responsibility for when they make errors in their feed.
J
10:23Joe Brennan Jr.PANELIST
So if this was, say, Sport Radar, and they came up with a final result that was incorrect, and we settle it incorrectly, and we have to go back and reverse ourselves later, well, the feed companies, Genius Sport, Sport Radar, they don't assume any liability for it.
J
10:39Joe Brennan Jr.PANELIST
It all falls on the operators.
J

and I don't get it like I understand people don't like betting right I work in betting and when people ask me what I do I almost feel like it's the tobacco of the 80s that's what that's what betting and sports book feels like it's like oh Jesus don't judge me I work in betting it's like someone who worked in tobacco in the 80s must have felt because like that was the industry that was up and coming but people kind of knew deep down it was bad for you and that's what I feel a little bit when I'm having to tell people what I do but like people are so naive and uneducated on this stuff as well it's like you know I'm replying to John Wertheim on Twitter and he responded a little bit once he responded and then he didn't respond or get into dialogue anymore with me but he was basically like oh no this is bad this is just like the US Open is meant to be funding the ITIA and how are they going and selling out to the gambling industry but like These people don't understand that the four Grand Slams are selling all of their data for years and years and years to Sport Radar and BetGenius, who provide it directly, funnel it directly to the sports books to power their models, to take the bets.
K
26:46Kevin LawlerHOST
They're funding the betting industry themselves.

So, uh, the, the data comes from a lot of different spots.
R
12:08Ryan RobyGUEST
Um, you know, whenever we built this thing out, we had Sportradar, uh, data feeding in, um, to, to our algorithms.
R
12:16Ryan RobyGUEST
Um, there's a- There's a s- handful of sites now that, that all do really, really well, uh, in this new world of taking the data and putting it into APIs, uh, for companies like ours to go subscribe to and do what we want with.
R
12:32Ryan RobyGUEST
Um, you know, I c- I can name probably a dozen of them, but, but the big ones you've heard of-

Better Collective Rides High on US Slip-Stream | Ep. 845
T
15:39Ted MenmuirGUEST
One of the big pressures here on, um, Betta Collective is the need to kind of improve CapEx, and I think that they kind of use AI as one of the weapons that it has in its, in its armory for this.
C
15:53Charlie HornerHOST
Well, I think it's a really interesting time in the US affiliate landscape really because w- we have to consider that both Genius Sports and, uh, Sportradar are, are expanding across media advertising and affiliate, um, operations.
C
16:07Charlie HornerHOST
Um, Ted OC, how do you consider that sort of evolving landscape, and where do you think Betta Collective is, is most likely to, to try and invest to, to defend off that competition?

It's a very good question.
C
16:24Charlie HornerHOST
Well-
T
16:24Ted Orme-ClayeGUEST
It's a tough one for me to answer, and I'm sure it's a very tough one for Betta Collective, um, leadership to answer as well 'cause it does seem like everyone is moving in the same direction in a few different areas.
T
16:36Ted Orme-ClayeGUEST
But I mean, you know, you're, you're right in terms of, like, what Genius Sports and Sportradar are doing out there.
T
16:40Ted Orme-ClayeGUEST
I'm sure Betta Collective probably have been paying quite close attention to Genius's acquisition of, uh, Legend, that, you know, that multi-billion takeover that's really going to expand Genius's footprint.

It's an in- it's an interesting question if, if anybody else starts saying, "Hey, don't use our data." Again, I think leagues, um, are, you know, they're, they're working these-- they're working with Genius Sports and Sportradar on, on these things.
D
9:49Dustin GoukerHOST
So the, like the league data is giving to them, um, for most of these sports now.
