The gear they managed to scrape together for this tiny room was minimal but functional.

The studio lineup consisted of a Soundcraft mixing board, a Tascam 80 eight-track tape recorder, a BEL Electronics noise reduction system, a Clark Technic DN50 spring reverb, and a Roland Space Echo.

For the synth-driven backbone of their new sound, they leaned on a Roland SH-101 synth, a borrowed Oberheim OB-X synth, and a prototype Movement MCS drum computer.

The conditions were far from glamorous.

So I had a Soundcraft Signature 24 input.

Nice.

It's right here on its side in front of the table that my modular stuff is on.

You just literally have to connect two end points to patch something into something else.

That could be it.

You see, if I'm honest with you, when I got my Soundcraft mixer, I thought, I need 24 inputs because there's so many things, especially with left and right on synthesizers and drum machines.

Doubles the number of ports you need.

And we dabbled in these before, but when we started the Denim Deluxe band, we ordered a, um, the, uh, Soundcraft UI 24-

... your ear lines, and they can use those out front and control them independently.

You're still controlling everything you hear in your ears, and that's a big deal.

And then with the Soundcraft and, and a few other mixers like that, you can actually save your settings.

And I had to get another one from America.

And that ain't easy to find.

I feel like it should exist and it may even exist and we just haven't stumbled across it.

But nothing that I'm aware of is really any better, because once you get to a good analog mixing board, you're either looking at something like the Soundcraft, which is going to do one of three things.

It's either going to be too huge to move around comfortably.

It's not going to send multitrack across the wire, across USB.

I think it was a Soundcraft mixer, which was, or Allen & Heath, I don't remember the company name.

But it was the latest model and, uh, a big multi-channel mixer, and he'd just taken a printout of that.

That's what he had.

Um, yeah.

I was like, Oh my God, using, using too much was better, you know? So then I kind of felt like I, I felt like I, hit a good spot after doing it for a few years.

And, uh, I actually went, um, when Kurt was building his studio in Salem, cause I, I kept emailing him and asking him questions.

I ended up buying his Soundcraft ghost that we made that EP on.

So I had to go up to get the Soundcraft ghost.

I went to get a new stereo in my car, right?

What's the new name? The Soundcraft, as they're going to be changing it to, but

right now.

Creative, yeah.
