What the Hell is Aaron Doing? | Series 1
A
11:46AaronHOST
So it's the A-style dial, the Stuttgart Pro.
A
11:51AaronHOST
And with this one here, I specced the blue dial, sterile dial, so no logo, no text on the dial at all other than the indices, top-grade Sellita movement, and an exhibition case back.
A
12:06AaronHOST
And I'm thrilled with that spec.
A
12:08AaronHOST
Really happy with it.
Fratello On Air: Sébastien Chaulmontet On Sellita, Albishorn, And The Love Of Vintage Watches
S
6:08Sébastien ChaulmontetGUEST
don't
B
6:09Balazs RenziHOST
know collect something else like i need to collect other things um And today, your main job is with Sellita.
B
6:18Balazs RenziHOST
So this is something we talked about before, as I said.
B
6:23Balazs RenziHOST
We had, I think, we had two videos with you on Chrono24 YouTube.
6 MINS LATER
B
12:36Balazs RenziHOST
Yeah.
B
12:37Balazs RenziHOST
So...
B
12:39Balazs RenziHOST
Why do you think then, again, collectors, or maybe these are not collectors, but watch buyers, sometimes dismiss a watch or talk maybe negatively about a watch for having a Sellita movement, even when that movement is reliable and easily serviced? I guess the question is, what's the biggest misconception people have about Sellita movements, right? Mm-hmm.
S
13:03Sébastien ChaulmontetGUEST
Well, the misconception, I would say there are several ones.
It's Hip to be Square (410)
E
10:26EverettHOST
Um, we have the, we have the standard dimensions for each of these in their current iteration.
E
10:32EverettHOST
So Sky Quest is 40.7 by 11.8 thick, um, with a caliber M23, which is a Sellita SW330 GMT, uh, a- with 300 meters of wa- water resistance.
E
10:49EverettHOST
The Triumph is, um, the new dimension of Triumph, which is to say 40 millimeters with a 10 and a half thick case with 200 meters of water resistance.
E
10:59EverettHOST
Now, um, I'm sort of on record as preferring the, the form, uh, of the prior version of this, but this is where M- Monta's going with the, the Triumph these days and, and I think it's nice.
37 MINS LATER
E
48:39EverettHOST
But, um, yeah.
E
48:43EverettHOST
This thing's really, really good.
E
48:45EverettHOST
And, and, you know, what we-- It sounds like we're, we're describing a An insanely old-- It's got the-- What does it have? It's that Sellita SW1000-
A
48:54AndrewHOST
Yeah
Spectre?
R
56:51RalphHOST
That, of course, reduces the availability of these AMT movements to these, you know, Kickstarter brands, because a thousand watches is quite a lot, right? You're not starting with a run of a thousand because that's a lot of outlay that you have right so it keeps it a bit more exclusive um with that but it's i think it's it's interesting to see how they really swept up the market right i mean everybody is basically their customer And what we don't know officially is when you talk to people who actually have been in their factory, right, because they all have to sign an NDA because you are going to see things you cannot talk about.
R
57:36RalphHOST
And from what I have read and heard on various forums and other places, There is certain watch brands who let Sellita produce the entire watch, right? They build the watch or they put the watch together.
R
57:50RalphHOST
So the watch is being sent directly to the distribution centers without actually being part of the brand.
R
57:57RalphHOST
So let's say this is hypothetical, could be true, but could also not be true.
R
58:02RalphHOST
You have the lower end Montblanc watches.
R
58:05RalphHOST
that have Sellita movements in them.
R
58:07RalphHOST
The cases are being made by a case maker, hands come from a hands maker, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
R
58:12RalphHOST
Straps probably come from Montblanc.
Episode 4: Is Great Design Enough?
M
29:15Michael BerriosHOST
for the same caliber reference number in the same reference and model of this watch.
M
29:20Michael BerriosHOST
And I can tell you that you have the Sellita version of that caliber and that it's a genuine Sellita movement.
M
29:28Michael BerriosHOST
but I cannot tell you how many Salidas versus Eddas were used for this given caliber.
M
29:34Michael BerriosHOST
And that one stung and it sent me down a spiral on what you seek in the various forums because how could you call a caliber the XYZ in-house caliber and it's effectively a slight customization made to two different large-scale manufacturers of movements.
M
33:10Michael BerriosHOST
C is the engineer and not intentionally ingenueur, but engineer.
M
33:15Michael BerriosHOST
And we're talking inventive case construction, strong durability and comfort.
M
33:20Michael BerriosHOST
all-around great feel and engineered to your wrist with an SW200 from Sellita.
M
33:27Michael BerriosHOST
All three of these watches are $5,000.
243: Seiko Panda-Monium, Garmin's $3,000 Smartwatches, And An Upside-Down Panerai
A
64:28Ariel AdamsHOST
...
A
64:28Ariel AdamsHOST
Sellita manually wound, uh, chronograph movement.
A
64:31Ariel AdamsHOST
Um, and what's kind of interesting is it was, at the time, uh, I for- I forget exactly what it was made, but I, I think this is actually red, um, nail polish.
A
64:42Ariel AdamsHOST
So that's how, at the time, uh, the actual pilots would color the, the crowns so they remember which was start and stop.
A
66:37Ariel AdamsHOST
Um.
A
66:37Ariel AdamsHOST
[laughs]
D
66:37David BredanPANELIST
I know it's a hand-wound version of the, of the 7750-ish, um, Sellita.
D
66:42David BredanPANELIST
I just hope it's not, like, 14 or 15.
Ming x Massena Lab 57.09 - Sweet Collaboration or Sour Inflation?! - Worth The Hype?! Episode #77
W
5:58WoodyHOST
In this case, it's now only used for the visual play at the back where the orange is peeking through.
W
6:04WoodyHOST
So it's quite clever of them to hide that because at the end of the day, it's a Sellita-based movement, something that we are well and truly familiar with.
W
6:11WoodyHOST
So that's my thought.
W
6:11WoodyHOST
And James, I forgot to mention this unique flair thing that they've also added to this particular watch is that almost like a tridor, the Rolex tridor design where you've got three different colors.
Ep 41 - This Watch Had to Wait for Technology to Catch Up | Parivas Exo.1
M
47:19Mickey BrownGUEST
so that people can appreciate that our price point is not for, uh, just a made-up number.
M
47:26Mickey BrownGUEST
And so the movement that we use is, um, a Sellita SW300-1, but we have it customized at the factory to our specifications.
M
47:37Mickey BrownGUEST
So that's just the base.
M
47:39Mickey BrownGUEST
Obviously, the, the bridge and the main plate are fully skeletonized.
The Deep Track, Ep. 114 - New York Watch Week Preview, Lifestyle Tool Watches
B
14:36Blake BuettnerHOST
... and the pre- the price is all based around that.
B
14:38Blake BuettnerHOST
What I think a lot of brands, uh, especially small brands, put a lot of effort into producing, like, this really interesting bracelet or experience on the wrist or something like that that is not just the move- it's not just boiled down to the movement, and that's to, like, completely sell it short if you, if you boil the watch down to, well, what movement are they using? And, you know, why would I pay X amount for a Sellita this or that, right? Like, A, I don't think there's anything wrong with, with a Sellita.
B
15:03Blake BuettnerHOST
Like, they're fine movements.
B
15:04Blake BuettnerHOST
But, like, a watch is a lot more than just that, and sometimes the engineering and, like, production engineering that goes into it and problem-solving h- that's done to create these things can be, like, a lot more than just, like, getting an off-the-shelf bracelet from a vendor and a case and, like, putting all the pieces together, right? [laughs]
Ralf’s New Norqain
R
20:17RalphHOST
If I'm not going for the carbon fiber meteor dial wild one, I would probably go to the wild one with the titanium accents here, right, with this outer case made of a titanium, and meteor so that would be also quite cool um again i am not the biggest fan of the of the um skeletonized movements but these are now the the 4k movement right the 4k norcane movement is made by amt um exclusively for norcane in the skeletonization and it is um the updated version.
R
20:59RalphHOST
AMT is the higher end version of Sellita.
R
21:03RalphHOST
So they do these skeletonized movements and these kind of things with also higher power reserve of 60, 65 or 68 hours.
R
21:12RalphHOST
So it is a higher end movement.
R
21:14RalphHOST
It's not the normal Sellita movement in there, the normal skeletonized Sellita movement.
R
21:20RalphHOST
It is an AMT movement.
R
21:23RalphHOST
based on the city movement, but much, much upgraded, as you can see here.
