He grew up in Anaheim and he liked to surf and just have a good time.

And he wound up going to Santa Ana College.

And as we mentioned at the top, he was drafted by the Twins in 1982 and didn't sign.

He wanted to get an education and didn't feel that $8,000 to $10,000 was enough.

a little bit more direct streamlined into like, all right, think about going to college and stuff like that.

So fast forward, I go to a community college, Santa Ana College, right down the street, and got that out of the way, got my AA, and I went to Kelsey Dominguez Hills.

And there I had to take a class that required me to go into my own local community and observe a political debate or a political forum.

And that's kind of where I kind of got involved.

Turned down kung fu films.

Moved to the great city of Los Angeles and went to Santa Ana College and art school in Pasadena.

Hell yeah.

He chose the name John, because that's what people called him.

And then blossomed at Cal State Fullerton.

And one of the shows I worked on was, I think I was 19.

I did Jesus Christ Superstar at Santa Ana College.

I was, as prestigious as that sounds, I was follow spot operator number two, I think was my official title.

But to see that kind of show go on, it would open and then the director would, like the next day, do exactly that.
