First up for Gig Alerts, it is time for another round of the Sabian Education Network's Dom Famiglaro Mentorship Award.

This is open to any drummer or percussionist that is above 18 years old.

And the winner will receive a cash grant of $2,500 as well as exclusive one hour mentorship sessions with 2026 judges.

I remember I was with Dom and somebody came up to him right outside the Sabian booth at NAMM and asked him if he would help him promote something.

And Dom looked at it and went, oh, this is really cool.

How does it do it? And then Dom looked at him and said...

And it's like, yes, but the part that you touched on that I want to like really drive home is it's a, it's not just a partnership, it's a relationship piece.

You know, and I'll give you one example of just, you know, I'm not endorsed with Sabian Cymbals at this moment, but I've been playing Sabian Cymbals since 1998.

So it's, you know, a long time.

And I flew myself out to the factory, put myself in a hotel, filmed there, did a factory tour with them, you know, showcase the product.

Actually got a bunch of their artists to film a little intro of like why they love Sabian Cymbals.

And again, they didn't ask me to do that.

They didn't pay me to do that.

I heard from, like, Chris Tankey from Sabian, who was really close with Neil, and he would ride with Neil sometimes.

Sometimes they would, like, rush would stop.

Like, the rush show would end, and, like, the crowd is still going, and Neil's already on the bike and gone.

they were Sabians, they might be better.

Yeah, no, no, no.

The other thing, too, about this is the instrument inspires something from the player, too.

And is he? He actually

helped get me my Sabian deal.

Is that right? Because he, Del Gray from Little Texas used to play Sabians.

And Tim being the connector and the people person was like, I might still have Sabian's number.

And I was like, oh, thanks, buddy.

Because, you know, cracked cymbals.

I know.

Yeah.

When they closed in Istanbul and Zildjian America took over.

And they made them up at what's now the Sabian factory, the Ks.

That's right.

There were some nice

He got a K Zildjian cymbal out, but with the old K logo on, when they used to make them in the AGCO factory before it became Sabian, made by the people from the Istanbul factory that they flew over when Zildjian sued them out of business.
