Both fires were fully extinguished by about 5:58 AM, and the firefighters remained on the scene to make sure the vehicles did not reignite.

The scene was handled over to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force at around 6:10 AM.

The cause of the fires is not yet known and is under investigation.

Minister responsible for public safety, Honorable Shaun Malcolm, praised the Fire and Rescue Service for what he described as a swift and coordinated response.

He said their timely intervention brought both fires under control and helped to reduce the risk of flames spreading to nearby property.

"This incident again demonstrates the importance of maintaining a well-trained, properly equipped, and operationally ready fire and rescue service.

I also thank the 911 Emergency Communication Center and the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force for their continued partnership in protecting our communities." End quote.

The public is reminded to stay a safe distance from active fire scenes and to call 911 immediately to report fires or other emergencies.

There were no reported injuries.

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force and Emergency Medical Services were also present and provided support throughout the incident.

Honorable Shaun David Malcolm, Minister with responsibility for Public Safety, in which the fire services falls under, commended the emergency personnel involved, stating, quote, "I extend my sincere appreciation to the officers of the Turks and Caicos Islands Fire and Rescue Service for their swift and professional response to this early morning fire.

Their coordinated efforts, supported by the police and Emergency Medical Services, helped to contain the incident and protect the surrounding community.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are much safer today.

The turnaround did not come by accident.

The results by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force have been remarkable.

In the calendar year to date, there have been three murders compared to 25 in the same period of 2025.

Well, unfortunately, Mr.

Leader of the Opposition, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force has put a plan in place which is stemming the traffic issues coming out of the Wheelan and Blue Hills area.

And I say unfortunately because we, unfortunately for you, cannot complain about the traffic this morning because the report so far has been that traffic is flowing.

Now any changes will be very, very understandable because we are testing out different road mitigation strategies until we have the new roadway system in place.

And so there will be discomfort, and that is why as a partner with the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force and the Ministry of PPID, the Ministry of Home Affairs is getting in the front of this and explaining these changes are going to be disruptive, apologizing, but they need to be made until we have the data.

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Marine Branch intercepted a vessel suspected of being involved in illegal migration during the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

The vessel was detected by the Marine Operations Center Coastal Radar Unit in the vicinity of Northwest Point, Providenciales.

Marine Branch officers responded swiftly and successfully intercepted the vessel before it could make landfall.

Food and refreshments were largely donated by residents of ED9, while local companies and civic organizations contributed drinks, prizes, and other forms of support.
