The family had been returning to Miami following a long weekend in the Bahamas when their Piper PA-34 aircraft, registration N212ML, went missing.

Bahamas Police said the aircraft departed Great Harbour Cay in the Berry Islands at approximately 10:12 AM Monday, bound for Miami Executive Airport in Miami-Dade County.

Air traffic control lost contact with the aircraft at about 11:04 AM, approximately 13 miles west of Andros Island.

Authorities later received reports that the aircraft may have crash-landed off Red Bays in North Andros.

In an off-camera interview, Evans told me it unfolded while she was driving along the highway.

That's when she observed officers from the Royal Bahamas Police Force pursuing a man who was aggressively dragging a young boy.

She described the suspect as having red, bloodshot eyes and foaming at the mouth.

As he tried to run across the highway with the boy, her instincts took over.

And at the base, the most important thing is we want to ensure that the child's safety.

Calmer acknowledges the existence of a citizen's arrest.
