and today we've got a real legend in the space we're going to be talking to michael curry he's president of data modernization that business unit over at rocket software and they are the new proud owners of vertica yes indeed the column oriented database that's been facilitating analytics for gosh about 21 years and before we hit record i was telling michael that a long time ago in a past life i interviewed a guy named dr michael stonebreaker when he was rolling out vertica and his whole argument was one size does not fit all because relational databases at the time had just taken the world by storm.

Everybody was using a relational database for basically everything.

And his point was that doesn't make sense for certain workloads.

It's venerable.

It's getting the job done.

And now it's part of Rocket Software.

So tell us, why did Rocket Software go and grab Vertica? And where does it fit in your portfolio now?
