Random House Children's Books

So, okay, I'm going to use a comparison with publishing.

When I was a baby editorial assistant at Random House Children's Books in the early 90s, I would sit in meetings, you know, in the back of the room with the other assistants, listening to all the senior editors talk.

And at that time, most of the books that were being published were somebody had submitted it, their agent had submitted it, an editor had decided to publish it, brought it to the meeting, said, this is the book we should publish.

And occasionally there would be a, hey, we would like a book like this.

All while artists are the very thread that makes us unique and brings us joy.

Authors Janan Matari and Alana Hadid have withdrawn their children's book, Displacement and the Palestinian American Story, from Random House Children's Books following months of editorial disagreements.

The book, which was set to be published at the end of September, was originally part of the Race to the Truth series, which focuses on the overlooked true story of American history told by authors from marginalized communities.

But the authors and the publisher ultimately disagreed over the manuscript's framing, including wording related to the international law and how the history should be presented to young readers.

We've also got the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, the film that would become Star Wars A New Hope.

A variety of complete children's fiction from Random House Children's Books, which features classic reprints as well as children's comics.

Incredible.

We are so thrilled to announce Princess of the Rebellion from New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray, set immediately after the events of Star Wars A New Hope, as you can tell from her outfit and her hair on the cover of this book.

According to The Guardian, copies of Displacement: And the Palestinian-American Story were due to arrive in bookstores and libraries in September.

But authors Amal Hadid and Janan Matari withdrew their manuscript when editors at Random House Children's Books requested changes to their account of Palestinian history.

The authors now plan to publish through Interlink Books, a Palestinian-owned US publisher.

In a statement, co-author Janan Matari said, quote, "They continued to try to sanitize our history because they didn't want to make certain communities uncomfortable, but decolonial history is supposed to make you uncomfortable." Unquote.
