French prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into sexual harassment involving smart glasses.

RFI reports that the Paris prosecutor's office has launched at least one investigation tied to a social media trend where women are filmed in the street without their knowledge and the footage gets posted online.

Prosecutors won't name the makeup glasses involved, but Meta controls an estimated 76% of the global market and around 7 million pairs sold last year.

The prosecutor's cybercrime unit tested some smart glasses two weeks ago to understand what offenses the devices could facilitate.
