Liberal plus NDP in '21 versus '25 was essentially flat in most of Ontario.

What happened is CPC and People's Party vote from '21 to '25, like most Conservatives who won in 2025, massively outperformed turnout-wise, and that showed, you know, Poilievre was exciting people who didn't normally vote to get out to the polls, and Mark Carney was getting people who were gonna vote anyway that were worried.

And I mean, to your point about pain, is Carney, is, is some of Carney's message of there will be pain making people think, "Well, it's not quite so bad yet.

I'm glad.

You've got to keep your friends close and enemies closer and he's done neither within this caucus from the sounds of it.

Is part of that because of the numbers? I mean, certainly there is a huge—I don't want to say a huge portion, but there is a sliver of this party that seems to be the same people who would have voted for the People's Party.

And when you have one foot, one toe in that pool— Then the people who might be the centrists who have voted for Stephen Harper and then voted for Mark Carney, when you still need them, they're not necessarily looking at you as somebody that they can—this is what I think, anyway—that when you're kind of playing footsie with that element, that people are turned off by it.

Well, there was a lot of footsieing during the pandemic.

And we do know that the last election, in fact, the Conservatives, I mean, they got, what, 41% of the vote.

But they did cannibalize a lot of the People's Party vote.

The People's Party really cratered in the last election.

And that vote... went to the conservatives.

And like let's, you know, 'cause we've, uh, uh, uh, as, uh, things that Poilievre's doing.

If we're gonna talk about polling, polling and where people are, oh my God, those Leger numbers of where the NDP are are, like basically, you know, we're spending a lot of time debating whether it's the People's Party or the Green Party.

Like, it's like non-existent from the conversation.

But the kind of, uh-

I understand those ones as like not terrible.

Hey, also the People's Party did contest all three of these and got like not even 200 votes in any of them.

They've never done well in a by-election though, except I think maybe one where Maxime Bernier was the candidate.

Yeah.

The voting opportunity comes after former Liberal Member of Parliament Jonathan Malkinson was appointed as Canada's ambassador to the European Union, vacating the North Vancouver Capilano riding.

Six candidates are vying for the position, representing parties including Conservative, Green, Liberal, New Democratic Party, People's Party and Independent Platforms.

Polls remain open until 7 p.m. tonight.

The riding has historically been a Liberal's stronghold, but all eyes will be on today's results as they come amidst a series of vacancies in Parliament.
