Historically, the answer has been complicated.

Norwegian Air tried the ultra-low-cost transatlantic play in a serious way.

They flew budget fares from the United States to Europe on Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

At its peak, Norwegian was operating more than 150 transatlantic flights per week.

Then, in 2021, they folded their long-haul international operations entirely.

The math did not work.

I was like, what is this? Do you

know what it felt like to me? It felt like, shout out to those of you who remember it, RIP, but Norwegian Air.

What? where sometimes you would fly with them.

And if you were lucky enough to be like, oh, I'm going to fly premium economy.

European aviation has already seen how quickly things can change.

The pandemic collapse took out several carriers entirely, including Flybe in the United Kingdom, Norwegian's Intercontinental Operations, and a number of smaller regional and charter operators.

The industry that emerged from that period was leaner, but not necessarily more resilient to the next disruption.

Now when we talk about a winter fuel crisis in Europe, we are talking about a convergence of factors.

She worked for Norwegian Airlines and customer service.

And it was always the Americans saying, hey, my aunt had a bad flying experience.

Can you give me half off my ticket or whatever? Some BS like that.
