Digital Euro Pilots Take Off, Doomsday Banks & Finnish M&A | Nordic Fintech Highlights July 2026
P
32:38Paul KrogdahlHOST
I think for S-Bank, this is a very interesting, um, journey to take, a decision to make.
P
32:46Paul KrogdahlHOST
It does help them to grow, and it'll be interesting to see if it puts them on the same level competing against, uh, the big boys like, uh, OP and, uh, and Nordea here in Finland.
P
32:57Paul KrogdahlHOST
But, um, I think it's an interesting, um, interesting move by S-Bank.
P
33:02Paul KrogdahlHOST
Maybe we need to get, uh, Riikka back on, uh, to the podcast again to talk about now that the news is out, how do they look at this? But, uh, Janne, how did you take the news?
Sage Group Drops, Applied Nutrition Rises, Salmar Gains
L
2:56Louise MoonCORRESPONDENT
Uh, that, that was earlier this week.
L
2:57Louise MoonCORRESPONDENT
They had their second quarter results, and then the fresh news is that they've been raised to a hold, um, at Nordea.
L
3:02Louise MoonCORRESPONDENT
So Nordea saying that there's limited fuel for a sale case in the short term, basically saying they've got very solid position in the long run, strong long-term salmon pricing momentum, premium growth prospects.
L
3:15Louise MoonCORRESPONDENT
Um, they did say there's a bit of ambiguity around feed costs, that the cost of that is, is, is rising.
L
3:20Louise MoonCORRESPONDENT
But overall things are positive, um, and as I say, this followed their second quarter results earlier this week where, um, the improved guidance for, for their harvesting, for their salmon harvesting, essentially helped to offset what was actually a miss in earnings.
SAP Lower, Applied Nutrition Gains, Ambu Drops
C
4:04Caroline HepkerHOST
Tell us a bit more.
C
4:05Chloe MelayCORRESPONDENT
Yeah, so quite disappointing results from Ambu this morning, and that was followed by Nordea, uh, downgrading the company.
C
4:12Chloe MelayCORRESPONDENT
And so those disappointing results and that downgrade, that has led the shares sinking this morning.
C
4:18Chloe MelayCORRESPONDENT
We're seeing a really, really massive drop.
C
4:30Caroline HepkerHOST
Mm
C
4:30Chloe MelayCORRESPONDENT
... uh, to meet its guidance.
C
4:31Chloe MelayCORRESPONDENT
And Nordea, which downgraded the stock, said that there were no signs of any inflection point when it comes to some of the, uh, segments including the urology and the ENT segment for that company.
C
4:42Caroline HepkerHOST
Mm-hmm.

S
14:57speaker_0HOST
And the defensive layer we discussed earlier, external insularity.
S
15:00speaker_0HOST
Why are major Nordic banks, the true giants like Danske Bank or Nordea, content to just ignore this opportunity?
S
15:06speaker_1HOST
For them, Greenland is purely a rounding error.
S
15:10speaker_1HOST
The potential revenue, even if they successfully captured fifty percent of the market, would be negligible relative to their group revenues.

A

And before that, I served in the telecom sector and in the consulting sector.
A
3:21Annabelle AmbrosiGUEST
And throughout my career, I've seen that successful transformation, it's not only about the implementation of new technologies, but it's about the right governance and the capabilities and the trust around them.

C

C
2:29Charlie BeetsonHOST
And I suppose looking at it now, you've worked across different organisations, including Nordea, which is another banking environment, as well as Swedbank.
C
2:39Charlie BeetsonHOST
What, for you, would you say are key leadership lessons that have helped shape how you would approach change in today's world?
P

V
1:23Ville SointuGUEST
I work for Nordea Bank with the transaction banking strategy.
V
1:27Ville SointuGUEST
And in my free time, I'm a complete payment nerd.
V
1:30Ville SointuGUEST
I also have my own podcast together with my friend Paul Krogdal.
V
1:34Ville SointuGUEST
So it's called Fintech Daydreaming and actually quite fun to be on this side of the table every now and then.
V
1:41Ville SointuGUEST
And finally, of course, a disclaimer that I always have to give is that the views and opinions that I give now are my own and not necessarily those of Nordea Bank.
V
1:50Ville SointuGUEST
So I think it was good to get that out of the way before the PR department calls me tomorrow.
M

Understood.
S1E6 Krista Korelin: Trust is the foundation, Loyalty is the end product!
R
0:52Rashmi KarsatHOST
Krista, you sit at the intersection of banking, digital and AI strategy, which makes you a great person to ask the big question, how is banking changing in the age of AI? However, before we go there, I'm curious to hear your career insights.
R
1:10Rashmi KarsatHOST
Could you please tell our listeners a bit about your current role at Nordea and about your fascinating background in B2C from different sectors?
K
1:20Krista KorelinGUEST
Well, if I look at my current role here at Nordea, I'm responsible for the digital business for the business customers.
K
1:29Krista KorelinGUEST
So our corporate customers who are in the four Nordic markets that we operate in, where we do then, of course, everything from end-to-end processes to the digital sales.
K
1:43Krista KorelinGUEST
It's a very exciting space because I think if we look at the corporate landscape in the Nordics, we have a lot of small businesses, SMEs, who are very much the backbone of the Nordic economy, you could say, both in terms of employing people, but then also, of course, bringing the productivity and wealth.
K
3:42Krista KorelinGUEST
As for the roles that I have been fortunate enough to have, I've been working with such great companies with different industries.
K
3:50Krista KorelinGUEST
In tech, I was with Google, I've been with Nokia and with Telia.
K
3:56Krista KorelinGUEST
In financial industry, I have been working with OP and Nordea, and then I've been with Sonoma in the media industry, all of which I think are really good examples of how we can really leverage the data that we have, the tech that we have, in order to drive business benefits.
