but my LSI 9211-HI HPA overheated and caused checksum errors during scrubs until I zip-tied a Noctua fan to it.

That said, I've had this HPA for over a decade now and never had heat issues before this, so I'm now in the market for a new HPA and interested in the 9300-8i.

So yeah, it sounds like the problem you're having is that 9211 is overheating.

It could just be, like you said, it's over 10 years old.

Maybe the thermal compound is dried out and it's just not conducting heat into the heat spreader very nicely.

And the Noctua will solve it for now.

But as soon as critical hardware in the storage path starts being flaky... it's time to replace it and not worry about bodging it back together.

Anyway, moving on to some other quality of life mods.

Yeah, so one of the ones that I have installed in both of my consoles is the Noctua fan mod.

um which it doesn't really have any benefits as far as like cooling the console down any more than it normally would it just makes the fan quieter which you know dreamcast lovers you will know how much of a racket the dreamcast makes the problem with the noctua fan though is that if you um because of the way it it it is swapped out need this kind of like 3d printed element to change the catch on the lid and every time that i've tried to install this mod i have ran into issues with that element get the the kit for the noctua fan from like a proper company so for example in the uk we have zed labs their kit is decent um because i've had kits where the 3d printed element hasn't been done properly and the lid just keeps pinging back up, and it drove me insane.

Thankfully, I'm at a point now where both my Dreamcasts have knocked to a fan, the lids all work properly, and I've never had issues with them, like, kind of stopping, latching, or anything.
