Well, I can tell you that it's been a child prevention safety program that's run on sort of television for probably about close to 20 years and still runs in the schools being used in the police education kits.

by a lot of the school community officers and community officers in the New Zealand Police.

And sadly, it was at the very beginning, it was an idea that myself and the New Zealand icon Susie Cato had together and it went dam busters from there.

So I'm one of the very few police officers that's actually been to every single primary school in New Zealand apart from the ones on Stewart Island.

PACPOL is definitely about all the 23 Pacific policing agencies and jurisdictions coming together, where they have various economies from all around the Pacific working together and so the information would come in through there, and then they would facilitate it to be shared amongst the specific agencies that need to be a part of it and to help assist with the investigation side of things.

And when it comes to resourcing, how much is New Zealand Police funding PACPOL, and how much are other countries funding it?

I can't give you the exact funding, but I can tell you the current arrangement at the moment is...

New Zealand MPAT or Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade supply funding to support the Secretariat and various other parts of PACPOL.

But also because it's hosted in New Zealand, New Zealand Police provide quite a large in-kind contribution as well to allow the PACPOL Secretariat to exist and to be operative.

Also within the Secretariat staffing, we also have members from New Zealand Police are seconded there, as well as Australian Federal Police and also the Pacific Nations as well are seconded staff in.

So it's really quite a multi-agency approach and multi-jurisdictional.

Right.

And ultimately, the enforcement prospect kind of falls back to the New Zealand police to be doing a lot of roadside policing when it comes to checking ruck.

They already do, but I think they're going to have to step up their efforts.

Now, I actually had a really interesting conversation with someone from the communications team at NZ Police when I was in Auckland this June.

And I asked him what the NZ Police's ideal solution is, because obviously, When you look at it from a compliance perspective, whose job is it to enforce it? Are we going to be pulling people over en masse to do ruck checks now? And he said, well, the NZ Police's ideal solution is a fully autonomous solution where that information is basically transmitted to the government and fines are issued on a case-by-case basis.

We don't have to increase our budget for roadside policing.

Now, that's a problem that largely hasn't been solved.

A senior police officer in New Zealand has reportedly in the running to become Police Commissioner of Samoa.

Superintendent Whata William Whanene is currently the National Partners Manager for the Pacific and New Zealand Police Force.

The Samoa Observer reports Mr Whanene is the government's preferred candidate but has yet to receive Cabinet approval.

The Observer reports Prime Minister Laole Schmidt saying at the beginning of October that interviews for the position had been completed, that a candidate from overseas had won.

The Public Service Association in a statement on Wednesday says that the recent arbitration outcome between the New Zealand Police and the Government must set the bar for future pay claims within the Public Service.

This comes after the New Zealand Police Association reached an agreement with NZ Police for a 3.1% pay increase backdated to July.

I'm not going to do that.

I'm just saying that there is a people who have got good relations with New Zealand Police.

Assessments are made and then those people will be deployed to any particular public occasion to make sure that there's a higher level of safety and awareness of the need for people to respect them when they're going about their public business.
