But the baseline is not what you would find on the airline side of the terminal.

What NBAA, OPA, and the coalition are asking the FAA to do is straightforward, as the agency moves forward with any update to rest and duty standards for Part 121.

They want those standards applied broadly, not narrowly.

Write the rules once, and write them to cover the operator categories where the same fatigue risks exist.

For pilots, several of those changes would be protective, giving you formal standing when you need to decline a flight for fatigue without fear of consequence.

For operators, the compliance costs are a real variable that the FAA will be required to analyze as part of any rulemaking.

If you work in business aviation under Part 125, you are directly in scope, and the fact that NBAA is part of this coalition is worth sitting with for a moment.

That scenario is exactly why the National Business Aviation Association, or NBAA, publishes quarterly safety reports.

And their second quarter 2026 analysis came out this week with two concerns front and center, power plant failures and takeoff and landing collisions.

Jets, turboprops, aircraft that, in the public imagination, represent the most reliable end of the aviation spectrum.

Business aviation operators have raised concerns domestically.

The National Business Aviation Association, the NBAA, has been vocal about FBO pricing practices, particularly at slot-controlled and capacity-constrained airports where an FBO has effective monopoly power.

If you're flying a light single-engine piston aircraft into a regional airport with a locally owned FBO, this news may not change your fuel bill tomorrow.

But if you are flying anything with a turbine into a major market, the trajectory of your operating costs runs through decisions made in conference rooms in New York and Los Angeles, not at the front desk of the FBO you just taxied into.

Some operators have been exploring fuel consortiums, direct contracts with fuel suppliers, or choosing secondary airports with more competitive FBO options when the mission allows for it.

Those strategies make more sense in this environment, not less.

The NBAA, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and other advocacy organizations have been watching FBO consolidation for years.

If you have opinions about how this should be handled, those organizations are the right channel.
