But there is a fine, fine class coming up here in the class of 2026 for the M Club Hall of Fame, including 1974 grad Steve Newhart, 1986 grad Keith McKinney, the late John Boll, Brenna Larson-Ruchoff, Ryan Kadsdorf, Susana Gonzalez, and the Alumni Coach of the Year here in 2026 is Raz Vandalou.
Zach JamesHOST

It's Commissioner Corey Westra and Corey, as always, let's start with the football slate.
Zach JamesHOST
0:20
And as you said in your morning update this morning, a lot of those programs have their homecomings, including Briarcliff and Morningside.
Zach JamesHOST
0:29
So let's start there in terms of the two teams in town this weekend.
Zach JamesHOST
0:32
And since I do work at Morningside, I have the option to start with Morningside.
Zach JamesHOST
0:37
And that's where we'll start here as Morningside will host Dakota Wesleyan at 1.30 pregame at 1 o'clock right here on KMNS.
Zach JamesHOST
0:44
I agree.
Zach JamesHOST

I've talked to a few people about this game, and the thing that intrigued me the most about this, Corey, is just how well the Tigers have played this season.
Corey WestraGUEST
1:14
Found themselves down 21, but battled back, and I think that really set the tone to start GPAC play for the Tigers.
Mike BikerHOST
17:27
... you start 5-0, and you win on the road at Northwestern, you have to be doing some things really well.
Mike BikerHOST
17:35
And for Dordt, 2-2, two one-score losses to Morningside and Indiana Wesleyan, that's great, but they're still losses, and you're still 500, and you're still backed into a corner in terms of if your goal is the playoffs.
Mike BikerHOST
17:47
You don't have a lot of room for error here.
Mike BikerHOST
17:50
No.
Cole CubelicHOST
46:05
Bad box score of the day.
Cole CubelicHOST
46:06
The Morningside, Iowa.
John SaberPANELIST

Greg McElroyHOST
46:12
These are not as creative, by the
Cole CubelicHOST
46:13
way.
Greg McElroyHOST
46:13
Okay.
Cole CubelicHOST
46:14
No. Morningside's the Mustangs.
Greg McElroyHOST
46:17
That's a good one.
Matt BossGUEST
5:42
Yeah.
Mike BikerHOST
5:43
Um, the foundation of playing that GPAC schedule where you had some similar type schools, Morningside, Briar Cliff had a team for a while, and then you had Jamestown as the, the giant, if you will.
Mike BikerHOST
5:59
That was a good foundation for moving into the Heart, and then moving into the Heart last year was an eye-opener for everyone, I believe, because it, they are as good as advertised.
Matt BossGUEST
6:09
Yeah.

15 MINS LATER

Matt BossGUEST
21:05
Correct.
Mike BikerHOST
21:05
Um, they've got, they've got the Briar Cliffs, and so do we.
Mike BikerHOST
21:09
Uh, you gotta play Morningside again.
Mike BikerHOST
21:10
So do we, so.
speaker_0HOST
0:00
Now it's time to talk Morningside Mustang football.
Curtis AndersonHOST
0:04
They were a day late, but, you know, we had other stuff going on.
Curtis AndersonHOST
0:09
But the Mustangs got a nice victory over Mount Marty on the road, 42-7.

12 MINS LATER

Curtis AndersonHOST
12:27
And when he ended up getting injured in that playoff game, that was him doing the extra to get the first down and burn the clock, I remember.
Steve RyanGUEST
12:38
Yeah, that was a great game down there at Baker.
Steve RyanGUEST
12:41
And, you know, he had a number of great, great games and just a great career here and excited about him going into the Morningside Hall of Fame.
Curtis AndersonHOST
12:55
Yeah, absolutely.
Curtis AndersonHOST
12:56
Coach, I won't keep you.
Curtis AndersonHOST
9:30
I remember going up.
Curtis AndersonHOST
9:32
I used to cover Morningside, too, when they were in the North Central
Adam TimmermanGUEST
9:35
Conference.
Curtis AndersonHOST
9:36
We'd go up and play the Jackrabbits, and I... who did the games he'd always volunteered to do by color was darwin bishop you remember yes i know
Curtis AndersonHOST
0:17
And Corey, here we go in football and, uh, uh, uh, we look back at last week, two games that really stuck out.
Curtis AndersonHOST
0:26
Obviously Morningside-Dort showed those two teams are really good.
Curtis AndersonHOST
0:30
And then, uh, Midland and all the, you know, all the coaches have told me Midland could be one of their best seasons, uh, in a while, and they have been pretty good, but that's a huge win up in Orange City.
Corey WestraGUEST
0:42
No doubt.
Corey WestraGUEST
0:43
You know, talking on the show last week with Zach, we talked about Sioux County, you know, being kind of a trajectory changer in the, in the league, and it, it lived up to that.
Corey WestraGUEST
0:52
You know, Morningside and Dort has just become a great football game now over the years, and, uh, ultimately Morningside outlasted them in that game and got the win.
Corey WestraGUEST
1:00
Now, you go over to Midland, you know, that, that's a huge win to go to Northwestern and get that.
Corey WestraGUEST
1:05
And so Midland stays on top of the league at a undefeated record joining Dakota Wesleyan who remain undefeated, and now those two play this week for the conference lead.
Mike PfeifferHOST
12:41
Yeah.
Mike PfeifferHOST
12:42
The win over Morningside, if only.
Mike PfeifferHOST
12:46
35-31 loss for the defenders and, uh, Matt, you were tied up at soccer, so is Isabel running the show at football.
Mike PfeifferHOST
12:58
I, I felt like we were going to, we, I had my uniform and helmet on.
Mike PfeifferHOST
13:12
It was set up for them.
Mike PfeifferHOST
13:13
And at the end of it all, you have run about 170 plays from scrimmage between the two teams and, uh, comes down to one or two plays.
Mike PfeifferHOST
13:22
And unfortunately for the defenders and fortunately for Morningside, the, uh, Yeah, kind of swung their way specifically at the end.
Mike PfeifferHOST
13:32
Isabel? Your thoughts.
Jessica SquierGUEST
6:26
... or 23-24, and either you're serving or passing.
Jessica SquierGUEST
6:30
So like I said, I think, um, you know, Morningside itself and just even the crowd here in the Siouxland area just is grasping high-level volleyball a lot more to where, you know, our matches are very fun to, to be around because the things that they cheer for isn't just a kill.
Jessica SquierGUEST
6:48
It's a cheer for, um, an aggressive serve.
Curtis AndersonHOST
6:51
Mm-hmm.
