If you spend time searching for fonts on the internet, it won't be long before you come across a company called Monotype.

It was founded in 1887 during the rise of mechanical typesetting and became a leading provider of machinery for printing presses.

Um, w- I've definitely had moments where I pinch myself where it's like, "Am I even qualified to do this?" [laughs]

Yeah.

She designed several covers for the Penguin Classics series from 1951 to 1960, as well as the Globe Theater icon for the American Pelican Shakespeare.

In 1958, Monotype commissioned a series of calligraphic borders, which they named Friedlander Border.

This was the first time her family name was used on one of her designs without fear of anti-Semitic reprisal.

Commissions for her calligraphy work took up much of her time.

It's an event that we pull together to bring a bunch of the bigger foundry partners we work with to talk a lot about Monotype's business strategy, about the current dynamics of the type industry, and to learn about what the foundries care about and make sure that they understand what Monotype cares about and get us all on the same page.
