Milton Academy

Well, you won't, but I don't think you'd get accepted.

Milton Academy started back in 1984.

Named after

It's been wonderful on so many levels.

And we have schools that have reached out to us this year saying it was such a hit last year.

Can Theo's come back and do a program with our students again? So we're gearing up for another school year with the students, which is wonderful.

Oh, that says a lot that they want you back and that there's interest there.

So, yeah, real salt of the earth working class people.

And then when I was 11, I got a scholarship to a private school out in the suburbs called Milton Academy.

And I got it through the Boys and Girls Club, which I had been going to the Boys and Girls Club from the time I was six years old.

And this scholarship, it was a six-year scholarship, and it only came up once every six years.

And by the way, in the play, it's a Jeff character.

In the musical, it's Seth.

I mean, that character is very much who I was at age 16 with the anagrams and everything about that character is exactly the kid that was going to Milton Academy.

Oh, sweet.

So I I think I have some question marks just about, not in terms of how capable this team is, but just in terms of how they adjust, because they also bring in a ton of new guys.

Milton Academy, shout out.

They still have a lot of older players who they brought in.

Well, look, I spent five years at Milton Academy.

Probably the

worst five

He was kind of more of the academic one.

He ended up attending Milton Academy for high school, which was a is kind of a. well-known private school.

He served in the Navy.

Then he graduated from Harvard in 1948, and then went on to earn a law degree from the University of Virginia.

She needs to go to an independent school.

And I ended up at Milton Academy, which is a New England prep school, day and boarding school.

And Milton's motto is dare to be true.

And they really emphasize reading and writing and critical thinking.

And we do a lot of organizing locally in the public schools.

And this question has come up over and over again as we try to hold the school district accountable for anti-racist education.

So for Milton Academy, when I was there, no, the intention was not there, I can say unequivocally.

I'm surprised to see how different the experience has been.

Um, and whether or not their, uh, parents contributed a great deal of money or not, or whether your name was Roosevelt, Lodge, or Kennedy, there was a sizable class of that, sizable group of that class, segment of that class that were there because of, of, uh, social, um, uh, and, and social reasons, tradition, um, wealth, and influence.

And so it wasn't a great scandal that, that Ted Kennedy, who had sort of mediocre marks in, um, elementary school and better marks in, uh, at Milton Academy, uh, where he finally sort of stabilized his academic career, could get into, could get into Harvard.

Um, and by the time that he graduated, given the fact that he had taken two years off and matured a great deal, um, he had worked his way up to above the middle of his class, so he could do the work as well.

Ted Kennedy, this is part of the legend of Ted Kennedy, is that he had a friend take a test for him.
