There's lot to look forward to out there in the colonies, as they say in Blade Runner.

Uh, the, the worst part, and this is kind of like back to the enabling thing, idiots would absolutely sign up for that, in the same way that, uh, there was the Mars One scam like 10 years ago, where the entire idea was, "We're going to get volunteers and they're going to die on Mars.

They will not come back." And people sign up for that.

There's billions of people in the world.

Yeah.

Or there's the Mars One people.

And I wrote it because I was reading a lot at the time about a company very, very much like the one in my book.

It was a Dutch tech company called Mars One.

They were a private tech startup.

And they said exactly the same thing.

It's both of those things combined.

And the idea for the story came from a real life project called Mars One about 10 years ago.

It was a Dutch company who wanted to do pretty much this exact same thing.

And I remember reading some really great journalism at the time that they announced their their short list of 100 finalists for their proposed mission.

What are we supposed to think of a person who's like, cool, I'm going on a one-way mission into space, and I'm doing it to save humanity.

Obviously, there's a part of you that's going to think, is this just an excuse to be done with it all, to get away from Earth and to get away from life?

I remember the Mars One project so clearly.

There was a guy here in Perth who was in that 100 and I interviewed him a couple of times.
