How happy I am now in my old age that I am a native Texan and saw the grand frontier before it was marred by the hand of man.
P
56:54P. K. SolocoNARRATOR
The Lipans, Kickapoos, Comanches, and Kiowa Indians used to time their raids so as to reach the Texas settlements during the light of the moon so they would have moonlight nights in which to steal horses and make their getaway before they could be discovered.
P
57:10P. K. SolocoNARRATOR
By morning when their thefts became known they would have a long lead ahead and be well out on their way into the plains and mountains.
P
57:18P. K. SolocoNARRATOR
The captains of the Rangers’ companies knew of this Indian habit and accordingly kept scouts constantly in the field during the period of the raids.

Crystal Wahpepah is a registered member of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma, but she spent most of her childhood in Oakland, California, amid the largest urban indigenous community in the United States.
A

Oakland is home to more than 200 different tribes as a result of US policy during the 1950s, which relocated largely Southern and Western tribal members to cities, not with a lot of support.

There, the American Indian movement took shape, and she is descended from some of the fiercest activists who fought for civil rights, including the right to practice religious traditions, speak tribal languages, and the rematriation of tribal lands.

After this, the treaty of peace with the Foxes and their allies can be renewed, and the following summer we can cause Uchatta and the war chiefs of the Foxes, with a train of their allies, the Puants, Sauks, Kickapoos, Mascoutens, and Sioux, to descend the lake to Montreal, where we can inquire of them their disposition and intentions, and also learn the desires of the king from France.
T
50:26Ted LinhartNARRATOR
It would be apropos that Uchatta should publicly demand a chief from the French in presence of his chiefs and of those of the Sauternes, Chippewas, Potawatomis, Uttawas, Ottawas, and other nations, whom it may also be proper to bring down, and a chief or two on the part of the Illinois, to be witnesses of the matters concluded with the Foxes.
T

There will be no difficulty in granting them a French officer, although it may not coincide with the wishes of the commandant at the bay, who will doubtless be opposed to this establishment, only on account of private interests which ought always to yield to the good of the service of the king and the colonies.

So his records from that event, as well as how he worked with the families after that had a huge impact and led into a little bit of, or fed into the Canales investigation and a lot of that kind of movement towards not restitution or healing necessarily, but a sense of accountability and a sense of improvement in relations for the area and for the state as a whole.
V
11:57Victoria ContrerasGUEST
So, and in terms of that aspect, he had a profound impact, but also the fact that he did take both historical records and historical accounts from the indigenous communities themselves, not as a kind of voyeuristic interpretation or from a second hand account, but very much focused on trying to get their perspective of things from various communities, including the Chickasaw, the Creek, the Kickapoo, and brought that with him everywhere he went and tried to relay that as well throughout his career.
