If you want to connect to the ultimate power of the universe, however you frame it, that ultimate self, your little self needs to be strong and it needs to be screwed into that bigger self you do that through discipline on the most basic things the eating the moving the sleeping the breathing the focusing your energy managing yourself well such that you have that strong ego and you can move beyond that to connect to something bigger than yourself then express yourself most authentically that was the quick take let's go all right transcendent and clear the fifth idea here is goats and tigers So there's a story in Finding Joe that the former executive director of the Joseph Campbell Foundation shares that's phenomenal.

Yogananda shares the same story.

But yeah, so you and I... met through a couple of conferences called Mythic Journeys.

And I want to get more into that in a little while, but basically we connected through those conferences, but because of your work with the Joseph Campbell Foundation and the fact that the group of people in Atlanta that I was with that, that led the formation of those conferences, had formed a mythological roundtable group, which is a local discussion group under the auspices of the Joseph Campbell Foundation.

So I'd love for you to just take us back in your history a little bit and talk about how you got involved in working with the Campbell Foundation, how you met Joseph Campbell, and a little bit about why he was so important to you in those early days.

Sure.

How many of us first learned about the glories of story from Joseph Campbell?

You know, I just had the executive director of the Joseph Campbell Foundation on my podcast this week on the business of story.

His name is John Booker, and he is sensational.

So if any of your listeners want to do a deeper dive, it's episode 550 of the business of story.

And then, of course, I've watched the series many times and used it as part of a discussion group actually in my church in Marietta, Georgia, and people really were interested in it.

And then I later became part of a group of people under the umbrella of the Joseph Campbell Foundation, a local discussion group that formed.

And out of that, we staged two big conferences in Atlanta called Mythic Journeys in 2004 and 2006.

Really? I was at one or both of those.
