James Patterson

Box.

I don't care if you're James Patterson.

I don't care who you are.

There's no way that you could author up that you're not even out of the month of October and Deshaun Watson, fill in the jokes, would have five fourth quarter comeback wins already for the Cleveland Browns? Just nuts.

Or is this Stephen King? How many books have you written now?

I've become the Patterson of sports books.

So, so bizarre.

I go to a cocktail party in my condo building a few years ago and I go up two floors above us and walk into this cocktail party.

We're all invited.

And all of a sudden, James Patterson greets me in the doorway.

It was his mother-in-law who lived in our building.

And he was a big Ranger fan and a big Rick Nash fan.

So it's just about, I guess, some kind of fulfillment each day, uh, that moves a story forward and, and I, and I'll get it there.

I saw that James Patterson is writing a book with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Are you resistant to coauthors, celebrity or otherwise?

Yeah, my collaboration is normally in script writing, you know, and some of the TV shows based on my books.

Impressive.

George Saunders, James Patterson, and Simpsons scribe Bill Oakley, which is, I believe, how you guys met.

That's right.

He's been featured on The Howard Stern Show, Drawfee, Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast, I've heard of it, and seen on stage at Symphony Space, 54 Below, UCB Theater, Ars Nova, and the Hard Rock Hotel.

Okay, and some surprising unexpected news for you.

James Patterson is co-writing a romantic novel, and that's not a sentence I thought I'd ever say, but it's true.

James, who is best known for his crime thrillers and mysteries, is teaming up with author Hazel McBride to write Fire Dance.

a romantic novel set in a kingdom where shapeshifters are hunted, magical creatures are imprisoned, and a brutal royal regime faces the threat of rebellion.

Many users online have pointed out the tried and true tropes that can be found within the book summary, including forbidden romance, enemies to lovers, love triangle, and second chance romance.

The news has also encouraged some community members to reveal some behind-the-scenes publishing tea.

According to an author who shared her experience on Threads, she was pitched a deal to write a romantic suspense novel with James Patterson by a former agent in the past.

While the opportunity for massive distribution and access to a new reader base was appealing, The author found the co-writing experience less than ideal, describing an editing process that stripped away vital aspects of the story, including characters' backstories, personalities, and having to scale down the romance and sex scenes.
