Let's go back to your Jax lookout, Sherry.
Mike HightowerHOST
23:46
You recently wrote that the JTA, quote, is grabbing headlines because the city auditor says JTA has a $32 million operating deficit, is laying off employees, trimming bus routes, and rethinking Navi and the Skyway future.
Mike HightowerHOST
24:05
You wrote, it seems that the mayor, council members, and JTA appear to be willing to rethink the dedicated purpose of the gas tax negotiated in 2021.
Mike HightowerHOST
24:16
Then you said, most importantly, we must ask, what is the purpose of our mass transit system and who does it serve? Where does the city turn for an answer or direction? And how does Sherry McGill answer that question from your perspective?
Sherry McGillGUEST
24:35
So the reason I told that little anecdote at the beginning about the president of the University of Alabama saying we wait to see where people are going to walk before we lay down cement.
Mike HightowerHOST
26:55
Yeah.
Sherry McGillGUEST
26:55
It's too big.
Mike HightowerHOST
26:57
But one of the things that Mike has raised with us, and I want to ask you, is under this new JTA board, the board members now are from surrounding counties.
Miranda SuarezHOST
1:22
Yes, we have this update out of Florida that is, of course, gonna affect us here in North Texas.
Miranda SuarezHOST
1:28
Florida's attorney general has subpoenaed records from the Jacksonville Transportation Authority while the agency confronts a nearly $39 million budget shortfall, layoffs, and major service cuts.
Miranda SuarezHOST
1:39
This subpoena seeks records involving vendors and employee programs, as well as communications involving Ford and his wife.
Ron CorningHOST
1:46
Now, KERA News reported previously that his spending there, including tens of thousands of dollars in travel expenses, was well known by the DART board here during the interview process.
Mike TolbertHOST
7:13
Oh, boy.
Mike TolbertHOST
7:15
And what's going on with JTA.
Mike TolbertHOST
7:16
That's number one.
Mike TolbertHOST
7:18
And we'll talk about this a little bit more.
Mike TolbertHOST
7:34
And I'm beginning to think he may have a good case.
Mike TolbertHOST
7:38
And if I was Duggins, I might go after the JAA and everybody else.
Mike TolbertHOST
7:44
I'd go after JTA.
Mike TolbertHOST
7:46
Maybe you bundle all that into we need to relook at the authorities and the relationship and how this government works.
Will LahnenGUEST
38:22
There's a couple of gas taxes.
Will LahnenGUEST
38:24
Uh, JTA is the recipient of, uh, one or two of those as well.
Will LahnenGUEST
38:28
Um, but no, when you fill up in Duval County, there's a portion of what you're paying that is a gas tax.
Randall ThomasHOST
38:33
Okay.

19 MINS LATER

Randall ThomasHOST
57:51
Uh, what about Navi?
Will LahnenGUEST
57:54
Yeah, so, um, I, uh, what my, uh, my good friend and counterpart, uh, Council Member Diamond says out loud, uh, I do agree with a lot of what he's saying about like this is purely a discretionary thing that has very low ridership.
Will LahnenGUEST
58:10
And if you look at, uh, you may recall, I, I kinda started the year off talking about my concern over JTA's finances.
Will LahnenGUEST
58:18
They ended last year's quarter being 19 million over budget.
