I actually checked and she has published in the Lancet HIV at least a couple of dozen times in the past 10 years.

And she's, of course, the former president of the International AIDS Society.

Beatriz is going to be talking to us, of course, about her and her team's latest publication in the Lancet HIV, the IMPREP-CAP Brazil study, an implementation effectiveness cohort study evaluating the feasibility of integrating same-day cabotegravir long-acting injectable delivery for HIV prevention within Brazil's public health system.

Before getting to Beatriz, I would like to draw your attention to a few of the pieces in this month's issue.

What drove the participants' decision to choose one option over the other?

What we learned is that PrEP choice is very personal and people value different characteristics of each option.

We explored this in a separate qualitative analysis from In PrEP Cab Brazil, which was published in the Journal of the International AIDS Society in 2025.

We interviewed 120 participants about how they made their decision between long-acting injectable and oral PrEP.

For example, for the WHO, levels between 50 and 1,000 copies are those used to refer to low-level viremia, which includes also this scenario of non-suppressible viremia.

For the International AIDS Society, it's everything that is above the limit of detection of the assay, which we know can vary based on the different clinic and geography, and that remains below 200 copies.

So our case for today falls exactly within this range between 50 and 200 copies.

Unfortunately, you know, viremia is a continuous variable, but we need to bin it into defined ranges so that we can provide operational definitions and guidelines.
