Letty LundquistHOST

Two, we're gonna do our own quick recap talking about Chicago, and last but not least, we're gonna talk about the water refill stations.
Letty LundquistHOST
36:42
One of our staff members, Fede, who ran the Chicago Marathon using a handheld bottle, his bib had been provided by HydraPak, who had partnered with Culligan to offer four refill stations for water, and they're doing that, as I said, as a pilot program to see how the response is, how all that could work in the future, with the goal of being more sustainable.
Letty LundquistHOST
37:05
So last but not least, Ryan, let's tackle the topic of the refill stations.
Letty LundquistHOST
37:09
I was in contact with the Chicago Marathon Event Management, and they gave me some numbers.
Letty LundquistHOST
39:22
They had tall, bright Culligan refill station flags positioned just ahead of the traditional Gatorade and water tables.
RyanHOST
39:30
So how did it go for Fede?
Letty LundquistHOST
39:32
Yeah, so Fede, like we said, he was running with HydraPak, and he was using a HydraPak soft flask with a hand strap.
Letty LundquistHOST
39:39
And he said that it was actually pretty efficient.
Thomas NeubergerHOST
75:12
Anyway, she was giving me, uh, trouble about that.
Thomas NeubergerHOST
75:15
But then she was like, "Look, HydraPak possibly would be interested in working with you at the New York City Marathon, and maybe we'll get some custom Believe in the Run bottles from HydraPak that we'll be able to give out at our shakeout run." And then there's gonna be five water stations like this at the, uh, New York City Marathon.
Robbe ReddingerHOST
75:33
Okay.
Thomas NeubergerHOST
75:33
So you'd be able to run up, fill up your bottle, keep it with you, and go, which is great, especially if you like the carbs, like the salty carbs and stuff that we like, that you can put into the bottle.
Robbe ReddingerHOST
75:50
Mm-hmm
Thomas NeubergerHOST
75:50
... that stuff in an easy way.
Thomas NeubergerHOST
75:52
So I'm for it, especially if HydraPak's gonna give our fans some, uh, bottles to use.
Thomas NeubergerHOST
75:58
Are you gonna do it, Meg?
Peter WilliamsGUEST
37:19
What I'm doing now, because I've learned, is saying, "Could you please send me a photo of your hydration reservoir? And if there's any branding on it, make sure you include that in the picture so I can see what could be the problem." And what I'm finding is everybody calls any reservoir, any hydration bladder, they call it CamelBak.
Peter WilliamsGUEST
37:37
They say, "Oh, my CamelBak," but what they mean is my HydraPak or my SkillCraft bag, or you name it, 100 other brands.
Peter WilliamsGUEST
37:45
[laughs]
Craig ObristHOST
37:46
Yeah.
Peter WilliamsGUEST
38:35
I mean, honestly, there's a lot of them.
Peter WilliamsGUEST
38:36
I mean, there are a few bigger players, so CamelBak obviously with the brand recognition.
Peter WilliamsGUEST
38:43
Uh, there's a company called HydraPak, which is actually near where I'm based.
Peter WilliamsGUEST
38:47
Uh, I'm based in Alameda, California, and they're over, uh, in Oakland.
Letty LundquistGUEST
54:03
I'm getting a Mylar blanket.
Letty LundquistGUEST
54:05
I'm getting plastic bags at the expo." So I think what HydraPak, 'cause we interviewed them before, said, was that they're just trying to make an attempt of doing one thing better.
Letty LundquistGUEST
54:15
They haven't determined the method of it exactly and how it's gonna play out, because at the same time in Paris, the runners were given little silicone handheld, uh, cups that you could just take out.
Letty LundquistGUEST
54:29
Which when you do that, what do you do with these things afterwards? You're not gonna use-
ErikaHOST
56:31
Exactly
Letty LundquistGUEST
56:31
...
Letty LundquistGUEST
56:32
I mean, we actually have a tester that will be running for HydraPak with a bib that is supposed to be testing every single one of these water stations.
Letty LundquistGUEST
56:40
So we'll have first-hand reporting of how that race went.
