I saw one expert interviewed on a different How Stuff Works article that said, uh, an average of 10 times.

Like, if you get stung by a wasp, usually you're gonna get stung more than once, and it can be 10 times, I guess, on average.

I don't know if they just pulled that out of the air, but they were a wasp expert, so hopefully not.

A fun aside on, on that map thing.

I found out after we recorded last week that the company that I used to work for that owned HowStuffWorks now owns MapQuest.

Oh, wow.

Great.

Mm-hmm.

But, like, some p- personal Sophie history is, like, before Coolzone, it was, like, iHeart.

Before iHeart, I worked at HowStuffWorks, and before HowStuffWork, like, Works, the, the company was owned by a company called System1, and then System1 sold, uh, HowStuffWorks to iHeart, and then we started Coolzone.

So there's, like, this weird thing-

Then again, we're talking about a living intestine that both spits venom and shoots electricity and has never actually been seen, so the word fact should be taken with a grain of salt.

A piece on How Stuff Works by Desiree Bowie reads, quote, "One theory proposes that the Mongolian death worm could be a surviving relic from prehistoric times, a living fossil that has adapted to the harsh desert environment over millennia," end quote.

Perhaps, but again, especially considering the conditions of the desert, one would think some kind of remains of its prehistoric version would have been found by now.

Indeed, several other important fossil remains of dinosaurs have been uncovered in the Gobi Desert.

The counter is only telling you yes or no ionizing radiation and how often it's detecting it, not how strong it is.

For the article this episode is based on, HowStuffWorks spoke via email with the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

They explained Geiger-Muller counters are used everywhere, especially when a low-cost solution that doesn't require distinguishing radiation type or energy is desired.

A GM counter is inherently unable to discern what type of particle triggered the pulse or even the energy of a particle.
