Historical Novel Society

Um, and I actually traveled to Bath last September.

I was in, I was in England for a, a Historical Novel Society conference, and it was two hours from London and equidistant between London and Totnes, which was where I was headed, was Bath.

So I said, "I'm going.

I have to go see where Jane Austen always wrote about.

But when I'm out in the world, I enjoy it.

Like last weekend, I was at the Historical Novel Society conference, annual conference, which was in Ireland for the first time this year.

It was in Maynooth University.

And I met all sorts of fascinating people and heard all sorts of stories.

And so I kind of hit this sandwich again where I had work.

I was running historical novel society, Australasia, and we had a, I don't want to go into it, but there was a series of family tragedies.

So yeah, it took me away from writing as much as I wanted to and researching.

Researching also World War II, I moved from move from Rome all the way to World War II, and, you know, so there was a lot to get in terms of understanding, getting my head around World War II.

Yes, and also for us, it's a boon because we get a higher percentage point of the digital sales versus with the paperback, the way that the price points work in terms of we get 10%, bookstores get 40%, I think, and then the percentages keep going in terms of the way that it's all being split.

So, yeah, it's a very different ecosystem and very different in terms of what we have the ability to do.

So I wanted to talk a little bit about the fact that you co-founded the Historical Novel Society Australasia and the ARA Historical Novel Prize.

And these are now the richest literary prize of this kind in the region.
