His Master's Voice

He began his professional career arranging music for dance bands before joining the music publishing and recording industries.

By the late 1920s, he was musical director of His Master's Voice, where he led the New Mayfair Orchestra, one of Britain's most respected recording ensembles.

Noble developed a distinctive orchestral sound marked by sophisticated harmonies, carefully balanced instrumentation, and elegant arrangements that blended traditional dance music with jazz elements.

He was also a successful songwriter, composing enduring standards such as The Very Thought of You, Goodnight Sweetheart, Love is the Sweetest Thing, and Cherokee, the latter becoming a favorite amongst bebop musicians.
