Darren FrehillCORRESPONDENT

They do, don't they? Bigger
speaker_3SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER

than Grimsby beating Man United at the same stage last season.
speaker_3SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
1:29
I think so, yeah,
Darren FrehillCORRESPONDENT
1:29
definitely.
Andrew VossHOST
25:51
He said, we were inspired by...
Andrew VossHOST
25:53
Did Grimsby beat Manchester United last year? They're saying they were inspired by that.
Andrew VossHOST
25:58
That was part of the team talk.
Andrew VossHOST
25:59
Well, Grimsby can do it.
Andrew VossHOST
26:01
Why can't we? Well, they've just knocked out Arsenal.
Andrew VossHOST
26:04
Unbelievable stuff.

Andrew VossHOST
110:39
So, score one all at the end of regulation time.
Andrew VossHOST
110:44
They go straight to penalties.
Max RushdenHOST
50:13
Swindon are kind of, where are they? They're mid-table, they're 14th.
Max RushdenHOST
50:17
Is he as popular with Swindon fans as he is with the rest of football? Apart from Grimsby fans.
Max RushdenHOST
50:24
And Plymouth
Barry GlendenningHOST
50:25
fans.
George ElekPANELIST
51:37
So, you know, results are improving.
George ElekPANELIST
51:40
But I think this cycle normally runs its course.
George ElekPANELIST
51:43
The Grimsby situation was a bit different where his relationship with the prior owner and his role in a failed takeover and other bits meant that everything was very messy there.
George ElekPANELIST
51:55
With Swindon, there is a lot of frustration with Clem Morfuni, their current owner.
BazGUEST
33:05
Oh, loads have done it in the past, haven't they, McKenzie? The fishing, all that.
BazGUEST
33:09
Grimsby remember them the FA Cup you used to have to blow up fish and things like that there has been I don't know if they're bringing it back
KieranPANELIST
33:15
but I don't want to see I don't want
BazGUEST
33:17
Everton going in with imagine you can do it then probably they can charge you for it at the moment but inflatable toffees games gone I quite like it do you like it I don't hate it go on you can be the captain you can have it
Gregor RobertsonHOST
36:48
Yeah, I wish.
Gregor RobertsonHOST
36:50
Chesterfield 5, Crewe 1 I mean Crewe were unbeaten until last week and they were 5-0 up at half time just some brilliant football the speed with which Paul Cookside were moving the ball around and almost everything they were hitting seemed to be going in the back of the net they hadn't won in any of the last three games either Grimsby hadn't won in an age and they won 4-1 at Gillingham some cracking goals in that as well but I think I've probably got to pick up Akron to Stanley who are just kind of rising under the radar about 5-0 at Rochdale Rochdale are obviously struggling you know managed to get a couple of wins in recent weeks but I think Akron I'm beating in seven now won three of the last five and again some brilliant brilliant goals again some comedy defended and goalkeeping by Rochdale But Accrington punished them emphatically.
Gregor RobertsonHOST
37:49
I'd say of the three, I'll go off-brand and I'll go for Accrington because they're quietly, despite again being chosen among relegation favourites by most EFL onlookers, John Doolan's getting a tune out of his players and they're up to ninth.
Tom ClarkeHOST
38:10
Yeah, some really big wins.
Charles WattsHOST
30:59
You'd expect it from someone like Spurs.
Charles WattsHOST
31:00
You'd expect it from someone like Man United, as we saw last season against Grimsby.
Charles WattsHOST
31:05
But just not from this Arsenal team, which is usually so professional and so switched on.
Charles WattsHOST
31:09
And even when they don't play well, they just find a way to win a game.
Laurie WhitwellGUEST
13:33
Yeah, it's a remarkable result, isn't it? Obviously, it took penalties in the end, but it was a great performance by Fleetwood overall.
Laurie WhitwellGUEST
13:38
It reminded me of, I was at Grimsby last season, a League Two side knocking out Manchester United, and you sort of thought that was the biggest upset, and here we go again.
Laurie WhitwellGUEST
13:47
So, you know, credit to the League Cup that it still produces these kind of occasions.
Laurie WhitwellGUEST
13:51
And yeah, I suppose scrutiny...
Kevin DayPANELIST
22:05
You never know.
Kevin DayPANELIST
22:06
What's interesting is that I've spoken to, as we both have over the course of my much longer life than yours, I've spoken to a lot of professional footballers from people who applied their trade at Grimsby and Plymouth.
Kevin DayPANELIST
22:21
to people like Gary Lineker, people who played at the highest level.
Kevin DayPANELIST
22:25
We don't get to speak to so many current ones now because I'm not involved as much in the media, but even so, they're guarded so much more now than before.

Joe WalkerPANELIST
35:14
And it looked like everybody there had an amazing time.
Joe WalkerPANELIST
35:18
So my cousins come back and said, it's the best away trip he's ever done.
Joe WalkerPANELIST
35:22
And yeah, it wasn't a Grimsby in 1997.
Joe WalkerPANELIST
35:27
Fair weather, fair weather.
WaleHOST
1:30
This is not
DangerHOST
1:31
about to be Grimsby.
WaleHOST
1:32
We, we, we, we.
WaleHOST
1:33
Hey, listen, man.

12 MINS LATER

DangerHOST
13:27
So, yeah, if you want to keep the back strong, want to start them.
DangerHOST
13:30
I'm with it because a win is a win is a win.
DangerHOST
13:33
It doesn't matter who they put in front of you because Manchester United, they lost to Grimsby last year.
DangerHOST
13:37
And who beat them this year again in the Carabao Cup? Was it Brighton? It was Brighton, yes.
NigelHOST
6:10
No, definitely not, you know, and it just goes, that spine of that team that we've been talking about there, you know, Dominic Samuel, he's a million pound player when he was at Blackburn, you know, and, you know, he spent time at Gillingham as well, and another one, Jake Hessenthaler, you know, again, he's a local lad, isn't he, you know, from the Medway towns, and, you know, we know the type of player his dad, Andy Hessenthaler, was for Gillingham and Watford before those years, you know, he was a proper... and Jake Hessenthaler has followed that mantle.
NigelHOST
6:41
He had experience in the Football League with Grimsby as well.
NigelHOST
6:46
yeah you know experience there but then you know they've got the likes of ollie box and gene kennedy that have come in as well you know they've been impacting games probably not only box not so much but definitely gene gene kennedy you know he got got a good goal um down at tunbridge when they won that game down there um yeah and you know it's just getting those sort of experienced players and those younger legs as such you know to to be your focal point going forward and get the goals and you know they're certainly performing at the moment i mean even the fact that they've played less games than everybody else, I think they're still the top scorers in the league now, or certainly up there, so it's certainly a formula that's working for them at the moment, and like we've said, just like the team and players individually, especially strikers, you hit a purple patch and everything goes for you, and they go in from all angles, don't they, when you're in that Rich Fader form, and that's the wave they're riding at the moment, but as I say, It's going to be interesting for them going forward because they've got a couple of tough games coming up.
NigelHOST
7:46
They travelled to Mainhead on Saturday, previous game, so we don't know how they got on there.
