The arbitration was brought by BFISA and the Standard Bank of South Africa Limited against Ghana Water on 23rd October 2024.

After many years of operating the isolation plant, the government of the NPP and Ghana Water failed and or neglected... to pay for water produced and supplied to Teshi and its surrounding areas.

Accordingly, the Tribunal awarded the claimants reimbursement of 58.4% of their reasonable defence and representation costs, reflecting the proportion of their success on the monetary claims.

Despite the commencement of arbitral proceedings and before the final award, the Government of Ghana had entered into negotiations with BFISA to purchase the Teshi Desolation Plant at a price much lower than the amount sought from the arbitration.

This purchase will ensure that the state fully owns the plant and does not incur any additional costs beyond what is necessary to guarantee the continued supply of water to about one million residents in the eastern part of Accra.

Now, the Black Voter Gold Project, which has become the subject of a major international legal battle.

The dispute involving competing ownership claims is now before an international arbitration tribunal in London, the High Court of England and Wales, and the Government of Ghana.
