Kevin Adler is an award-winning social entrepreneur, best-selling author, and he's going to tell me all about how to become a best-selling author, and street sociologist whose work explores how relational repair can reshape homelessness, strengthen communities, and help heal a fractured society.

He's the founder and board chair of Miracle Messages, a nonprofit that's reunited more than 1,200 unhoused neighbors with their loved ones, pioneered volunteer-based social support models, and launched one of the nation's first randomized controlled trials of guaranteed income for people experiencing homelessness, a $2.1 million study led by researchers at USC and supported by Google.org. He's also the author of a fantastic book, When We Walk By, and Natural Disasters as Catalyst for Social Capital.

His writing, research, and advocacy has been featured all over the place, New York Times, Washington Post, PBS, and through his TED Talk.

He's currently pursuing a Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and holds grad degrees from Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy and the University of Cambridge.

Business school INSEAD has launched a new research lab in Singapore to study how artificial intelligence is changing the way people work, learn and connect with others.

Unveiled yesterday at its Singapore campus, the INSEAD Thrive Lab has received about $3.8 million in funding from Google.org and Google DeepMind.

The lab will also explore how AI affects well-being, careers and relationships and how people can adapt to technological change.

It plans to work with businesses, schools and governments to put its research into practice, while supporting young researchers and hosting an annual global conference.

And I think that thinking, what I sort of therefore call kind of a shift from entrepreneurship to really a focus on enterprise has led to a whole new variety of foundations.

Some of them are actually hybrids, so Google.org, or the media network incorporated themselves as funders to explicitly fund non-profits as well as for-profits.

And then we see their influence, I think, in a whole range of funders that have typically funded non-profits but are now starting to experiment a little bit with companies.

So, for example, the New Schools Venture Fund, which is a venture philanthropy that has traditionally funded non-profit education startups, now has in its excuse me, portfolio, a couple of for-profit startups.

This project is known as the Public Transit Intelligence Hub or PTIQ for short.

It's part of a total of $30 million in funds that Google awarded to 15 recipients for the Google.org Impact Challenge AI for Government Innovation.

And selected from a global poll of more than 2,600 proposals, Google says the projects are selected to support governments that are addressing complex challenges using AI.
