That was back in spring 2026.

So over the next five months, myself with my ministry and our team worked closely with Fraser Health to figure out a way to get the project back on its rails.

And the way we did that was by separating the latter half of the project into discrete phases that we could deliver.

And that's why shortly last week, We were able to announce that we are able now to proceed with the emergency and operating room improvements at a cost of about $210 million with a separate scope for improved cancer care and new acute care beds to come.

So why is that?

I gave the Burnaby Hospital Foundation a call shortly before we were able to come out with the announcement.

But we've been working madly with Fraser Health over the last five months to try to figure out how to get this incredibly important project back on the rails.

And that's why we held the money in our capital plan the entire time.

I think other places in Canada call them Ontario.

health regions or like Fraser Health Authority or whatever.

They also have them in different provinces as a different terminology, but it's like the central sort of organization that allocates funding and resources to different parts, different hospitals, different community agencies.

So I was working with them for three years.

It caused extensive damage at the hospital, even shutting down the emergency department.

At the time, Fraser Health said it contributed to a COVID outbreak that resulted in five deaths.

Police reviewed hundreds of hours of surveillance footage as part of their investigation and publicly shared an image of a person of interest.

I was told it's because they ran out of money.

I think that it was going to go a little bit faster, and just-
