Flying Nun Records

And I was intrigued to find out, uh, when I found out more about Jane Dodd, who was born in 1962, this contemporary jeweler.

Uh, she was once a drummer with- in the Dunedin, in the Dunedin sound, in the Dunedin space, with both The Chills and The Verlaines, and Flying Nun Records.

Mm-hmm.

And so I've chosen a Chills track, uh, which is called Heavenly Pop Hit, which was introduced to me by Martin Phillips of The Chills on a pre-recording, um, cassette.

Um, we've come to the end of the show.

Big thanks to Flying Nun Records store.

Also a massive thanks to the listeners today who have, uh, sent in a q- quite a few texts and pho- phoned up, and um, gotta say it's always fun when, um, you feel like there's some engagement there.

Um, so keep texting, keeps phoning.

Well, it's, it's, I think it's sick that it is like that, but it is, it is, yeah, it's like you talk to some kid and he's like ...

Well, this is the interesting thing is you talk to somebody and they're like, like, "Oh, I know about Flying Nun records." And then you're like, "Do you know about like Limp Bizkit?" And they're like, "Who's that?"

Yeah.

I mean, bad example, but it's like it creates this sort of like hyper niche sort of like way for people to discover music that I think is good, but ultimately kind of like, um-

It's their signature sound, and it's a few years on.

This is heralding, this single is heralding that they've got their third album coming out on Flying Nun at the end of November.

The album is called Given to the Night.

Fantastic.

Before the break there, we had Francesca by Fishing, and I just put on, after that, Magic Romance by Beatworks, who's an artist I've been getting into recently.

I picked up a cassette of hers at, I believe it was the Flying Nun Records on Karangahape Road, and ever since I've been kind of like... kind of obsessed and so the cool thing about it he's from I believe he's from Dunedin but apparently apparently all those kind of like I don't know what you call like beep beep boopy synthy sounds not your traditional synthesizer but like in a handheld like Nintendo console like a Nintendo DX I don't know how that all works, but it sounds pretty cool.

It sounds pretty cool in my opinion.

Yeah, all right.
