Florida High School Athletic Association

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) is committed to this ideal, and to the belief that a quality education does not begin or end in the classroom. For over a century, the FHSAA – through the cooperative efforts of its member schools – has provided opportunities for high school students in Florida to participate on a fair and equitable basis in interscholastic athletic programs that produce vital educational benefits. The FHSAA sponsors over 3,500 championship series games through which 144 teams, and 294 individuals are crowned state champions in 32 sports each year. Over 2,000 student athletes each year experience winning a championship. Through participation in these athletic programs, over 800,000 students annually are extended opportunities to receive lessons in leadership, sportsmanship and citizenship. The Florida High School Athletic Association . . . building leaders through teamwork, sportsmanship and citizenship.www.fhsaa.com

You realize the high school playoffs here in the state of Florida, in some instances for the Sunshine Athletic Association teams, begin a week from this Friday.
Ryan GreenHOST
7:23
And for the FHSAA, they begin in a couple of weeks.
Ryan GreenHOST
7:28
So we'll kind of let you know where things stand among your alma mater, local high schools in the area as the regular season is winding on down.
Ryan GreenHOST
7:36
And as I did say, we will touch upon some college football as well.

Ryan GreenHOST
76:16
Justin, leave us with this.
Ryan GreenHOST
76:17
The FHSAA high school playoffs right around the corner.
Ryan GreenHOST
76:21
Reigns looks like they might be competing for that tournament where the best eight teams in the state go, potentially Lake City, Columbia as well.
Ryan GreenHOST
31:19
I don't know.
Ryan GreenHOST
31:20
I guess it's the FHSAA.
Ryan GreenHOST
31:22
Whoever put those two in the same district, that's nonsense.
Ryan GreenHOST
31:24
Yes.
Theo DorseyHOST
34:49
Um, he told me back then, a third straight state title for West Boca, not enough.
Theo DorseyHOST
34:57
Uh, their goal, their eyes, their plans, everything is sought after, um, going out and winning the actual open championship for the first time here in the FHSAA, and a win tonight and winning out through the season would help boo- bolster that ranking so they're able to do so.
Theo DorseyHOST
35:12
So I'm excited for the Friday night lights and the Friday Night Football tonight.
Theo DorseyHOST
35:16
I was really, really hoping, um, as I see [laughs] my guy Mike Rizzo sporting his, uh, his Indians gear, uh, was really hoping that if we did have a game five there in baseball, it would've landed on a night like Friday night, so after that I can tune into some ball, not have to choose between college football and, uh-
Marc DanielsHOST
67:55
And the apology, I believe, was more like, all right, I guess this is the right thing to do.
Marc DanielsHOST
67:58
The other one I want to give, and I'm praising almost the start of the week, the FHSAA, like the NCAA, gets a ton of heat for the inability of enforcing rules and the transfer issues in high school football in this state and everything.
Marc DanielsHOST
68:09
But, Chris, I applaud them and the dud.
Marc DanielsHOST
68:13
are those that took part in the multiple brawls in high school football, which includes players and coaches that got involved, and they dropped the hammer, man.
Scott ChevalierHOST
20:37
So anything that's competitive falls under-
Travis AlderinkGUEST
20:40
FHSAA stuff, basically.
Scott ChevalierHOST
20:41
Okay.
Scott ChevalierHOST
20:41
Comes under you.
Marc DanielsHOST
57:49
Let me do this first.
Marc DanielsHOST
57:50
Um, it, it, it's been a couple years, right, since the FHSAA decided to bring in MaxPrep rankings, correct? This isn't new.
Marc DanielsHOST
57:57
I mean, we've done this for a few years, right?
Andy VillamarzoGUEST
58:02
Uh, it, it's kind of gone back and forth.
Marc DanielsHOST
58:10
Mm-hmm.
Andy VillamarzoGUEST
58:10
And I mean, to say that was something that was as controversial, if not more, would probably be...
Andy VillamarzoGUEST
58:18
I mean, that would be correct, but also looking, uh, or not looking at MaxPreps as kind of hyper-focused as people are now, I think there, there probably just wasn't a lot of discussion on other rankings 'cause people were so fixated on what the FHSAA was producing on a weekly basis.
Marc DanielsHOST
58:37
All right.
Jordan ConeHOST
11:56
I think you can do that.
Jordan ConeHOST
11:57
Are you going to, are you planning on wrestling on FHSAA this year? I don't think so.
Jordan ConeHOST
12:01
No? Saving it, kind of growing up a little, getting a little bit more experience under your belt?
Jayden ColemanGUEST
12:07
Yeah.
Trent OsborneHOST
25:12
Coach, congrats on the win.
Trent OsborneHOST
25:13
How does you look at how kind of wonky the FHSAA has had these districts over the past few years? You have over half of your games.
Trent OsborneHOST
25:22
I was
Ryan GreenHOST
25:22
about to say, don't get Tom McPherson started on that.
Trent OsborneHOST
25:34
Does that change the coaching philosophy at all for you compared to you've got some of these districts where it's only three teams, whereas opposed to you, pretty much the rest of the season is going to be district play for you in Fleming Island?
Tom McPhersonGUEST
25:47
No, I mean, I appreciate the comment, Hack.
Tom McPhersonGUEST
25:50
Yes, I've been known to speak out on a few things, but I've never spoke out on districts in the FHSAA.
Tom McPhersonGUEST
25:55
I can tell you 100%.
