Flexjet LLC

Flexjet first entered the fractional jet ownership market in 1995. Flexjet offers fractional jet ownership and leasing. Flexjet’s fractional aircraft program is the first in the world to be recognized as achieving the Air Charter Safety Foundation’s Industry Audit Standard, is the first and only company to be honored with 21 FAA Diamond Awards for Excellence, upholds an ARG/US Platinum Safety Rating and is IS-BAO compliant at Level 2. Flexjet’s fractional program fields an exclusive array of business aircraft—some of the youngest in the fractional jet industry, with an average age of approximately six years. In 2015, Flexjet introduced Red Label by Flexjet, which features the youngest fleet in the industry, flight crews dedicated to a single aircraft and the LXi Cabin Collection of interiors. To date there are more than 40 different interior designs across its fleet, which includes the Embraer Phenom 300, Challenger 350, the Embraer Legacy 450 and Praetor 500, Global Express, the Gulfstream G450, G500, G650 and G700, and the Aerion AS2 supersonic business jets. Flexjet is a member of the Directional Aviation family of companies. John OdegardGUEST
9:18
So that was the, that was the start and, uh, and moving in, both into sales and into the, into the fractional ownership world.
Alasdair WhyteHOST
9:29
And then Raytheon went on to become Flight Options, or they bought Flight and, and is now really what is Flexjet, isn't it? So it's done pretty well.
John OdegardGUEST
9:38
Yeah.
John OdegardGUEST
9:38
That all, uh, they, they, uh, joined together with Flight Options in 2002 and, and then have evolved since then under, uh, under the Directional umbrella and the Flexjet umbrella, which has been, which has been great.
John OdegardGUEST
9:50
Uh, for me, in 2002, um, I was approached by NetJets to, to, uh, take a territory sales position out of Chicago.
John OdegardGUEST
9:57
I was living in Minneapolis at the time and, uh, and so I made the move to NetJets, uh, in 2002 and ran a four-state, uh, four-state territory to start with, uh, out of Chicago.

31 MINS LATER

John OdegardGUEST
41:12
Yeah, exactly.
John OdegardGUEST
41:13
You, you, you shouldn't be flying solo in that situation.
Paul JebelyGUEST
10:12
Fleets in the world flying these aircraft are American.
Paul JebelyGUEST
10:16
So NetJets, FlexJets, Wheels Up, Thrive, Bond, right? So a ban on Bombardier orders is functionally a ban on American aircraft buying the aircraft they've already ordered.
Paul JebelyGUEST
10:34
And again, this is the fact that the system that we operate in, it doesn't care about the intention behind his input.
Paul JebelyGUEST
10:45
The North American, and frankly, the American aerospace supply chain took sort of 80 years to integrate into the global economy, and it doesn't reverse gears over a long weekend or a Labor Day post.
Preston HollandHOST
3:05
Good for you.
Preston HollandHOST
3:06
The people that I wonder if they do have to worry about it is folks like Flexjet, Bond, NetJets, Thrive, who will come up later in the show, right? These people who have these big orders.
Preston HollandHOST
3:18
I wonder if they're wondering, "Hey, you know, how long, is this, is this one gonna stick? Is this for real this time or not?"
Jessie NaorHOST
3:25
Yeah, and he even joked the last time that he threatened something against Bombardier, or, you know, when we were trying to get, he was trying to get the Gulfstream certified, that they caved in, like, two hours.

7 MINS LATER

Preston HollandHOST
10:07
Yeah, so for those that didn't read the article, this is a little bit of a nuanced investment by Honda.
Preston HollandHOST
10:14
Historically, manufacturers have owned fractional programs.
Preston HollandHOST
10:17
So Flexjet was owned by Bombardier.
Preston HollandHOST
10:20
There was Citation Air owned by Cessna.
TowerHOST
5:09
The fractional ownership world is watching this too.
TowerHOST
5:12
NetJets, FlexJet, and others run significant Bombardier fleets.
TowerHOST
5:16
FlexJet in particular has been a major Bombardier customer, operating Challengers and Globals as core fleet types.
TowerHOST
5:23
When you talk about tariffs affecting Bombardier, you're indirectly talking about the economics of fractional aviation for tens of thousands of cardholders who never think about trade policy when they call to book a trip.
TowerHOST
5:35
Now let's talk about the competitive landscape for a moment because context matters here.
Anthony TaylorHOST
15:03
So let's talk about Sentient Jets.
Anthony TaylorHOST
15:05
You know, you were in aviation business with FlexJet for, you know, two and a half years now as the president of this organization.
Anthony TaylorHOST
15:12
What does that world look like now in 2026 with technology, the way that it's evolved, aviation, the way that it's evolved in competition and uncertainty the way like what's a day in the life for you these days?
Alan WalshGUEST
15:27
uh it's it's not emc and it's not dell i can tell you right it's very different i think private aviation for me is very unique having come from different industries it's very very very unique i think um like there's a couple of things that despite all of the change remain a constant right the first thing for me is the people uh you know i walked into an organization where the passion met you at the front door, the commitment met you at the front door.
Cory BengtzenGUEST
22:58
We're able to enter into the heavy jet space now.
Cory BengtzenGUEST
23:00
So we're competing head-to-head against the biggest names in our business arena, like NetJets and FlexJet and Plainsense and stuff like that.
Cory BengtzenGUEST
23:10
So for us, we're really getting aligned on, okay, What is it going to take? What does that look like to be a top 10 operator? And how are we going to do that by 2030? Living our core values throughout that.
Cory BengtzenGUEST
23:25
So there's a few steps that we've identified, and it's probably going to be through acquisition here in the next few years that we're looking at some of our competitors and what that looks like.
Nick FialkaHOST
20:12
She has, she has an interview, an un- unscheduled interview with American." And I spent three and a half hours after, after the convention was over.
Nick FialkaHOST
20:25
We went back in, and FlexJet was next to us, and they had couches, and we sat on those couches for hours and hours and hours and went through prep, and she had a really hard time because she was very prideful and defensive.
Nick FialkaHOST
20:39
And it was really hard to work through that.
Nick FialkaHOST
20:41
And she ended up with a thanks, but no thanks.
Kit DarbyGUEST
41:20
So I don't know if you realize it, but you could get your fixed wing licenses and do a helicopter add-on and have both for less money than you could learn to fly in a helicopter alone.
Kit DarbyGUEST
41:29
And I've actually sh-shown a couple of young folks that, and they did that, and they are now at Flexjet and major airlines.
Kit DarbyGUEST
41:35
So realize that you're spending a lot of extra money to learn to fly in a helicopter, uh, that could be spent perhaps more wisely in airplanes and helicopter flying.
John ZimmermanHOST
41:45
All right, Kit, our last question's always the same on this podcast.
Katie BakerGUEST
31:38
...
Katie BakerGUEST
31:38
FlexJet, like, you know, all these things, and the Golden Globes they own.
Katie BakerGUEST
31:42
You know, it's just, um...
Katie BakerGUEST
31:44
So I think to some extent, you know, you have just these people in partnership, then they have investments from their sort of like subpartners and, uh, but, but that, but that's exactly the question.
Neen JamesGUEST
31:43
Or maybe putting a sign, one of my financial services, they now have a sign wherever their clients are going to park that has the client's name on it so every time they come for their financial analysis, They do that easy peasy, costs nothing, but it's a system.
Neen JamesGUEST
31:54
Recently, I had the privilege of working with FlexJet and I was working with the interns.
Neen JamesGUEST
31:59
And what's amazing was all of the team read my book.
Neen JamesGUEST
32:03
So all the interns got the book and their capstone project at FlexJet was to be able to think about how do they elevate the experience for team members based on the principles of my book.
Neen JamesGUEST
32:14
I had such a fantastic time with them.
Neen JamesGUEST
32:16
I'm so proud of all of them.
