Welcome and good evening to the EASL deep dive webinar.

We will talk about the utility and challenges of genetic testing in progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis called PIC.

My name is Verena Keitel from Aachen, Germany.

And it essentially estimates short-term mortality.

The EASL CLIF data, they're pretty striking.

It shows that mortality rises sharply as organ failure accumulates.

Which is, you know, why the score is most useful when followed serially rather than, you know, treated as one one-time number.

But whether you're an enthusiast or a skeptic, we all need to get to grips with it and to kind of grapple with where this new field and some of these emerging techniques sit within our clinical practice.

So EASL has decided to take this on properly today as a podcast and to explore some of the opportunities, evidence, and controversies surrounding this field, and I've invited two fantastic guests to help me do this today.

So I've got Professor Juan Brugges join me from the University of Alberta in Canada.

Juan is an internationally recognized expert in cirrhosis and portal hypertension and has been instrumental recently in driving the Baveno consensus recommendations.
