They've been around for a while.

They're out of the USA and they're about to release a record called What They Grow in the Garden on Equal Vision Records.

Yeah.

So let's hear a track from that upcoming record.

That is a track from the upcoming record from Slothrust, called What They Grow in the Garden.

Slothrust are a band out of Boston, Massachusetts, a.k.a. the other Boston.

And that new record from Slothrust is coming out on Equal Vision Records.

Let's go to a band called Core Deluxe.

Royalties were tangled when bands like A Day to Remember fought over unpaid earnings for years.

Equal Vision is a great example of a straight edge line to post-hardcore pipeline too.

Founded by Ray Capo after his work with Shelter and Youth of Today, the label moved from distributing Krishna-influenced hardcore into emo and alternative rock, always keeping an eye on fan transition.

They learned that when a fan starts listening to melodic bands like One Day Away or Bless the Fall, you gotta give them something next.

So Equal Vision stayed in touch by releasing music that sat at the crossroads, emotive yet still raw.

So collectors didn't feel abandoned.

Jadetree, meanwhile, carved out a niche where emo meets indie rock, with releases from Lifetime, The Promise Ring, and Jets to Brazil.

But no, we never really identified as...

I, and I think at that time, Equal Vision was such a new label in general, run by Hare Krishnas, [laughs] that I wouldn't blame anybody for thinking [laughs] that, that we were a Hare Krishna band, you know?

Yeah, 'cause in the broken-

But, no

in, in the broken telephone of hardcore at the time, it was that, oh, you have to be a Krishna band to be on the label.

Yeah, I remember, I remember hearing.

I mean, when I f- when they- When Copper kicked me out, [laughs] I moved, I moved to New York, and I moved in to Equal Vision Records, and I moved into the loft.

They had a loft on 24th Street and Sixth Avenue, like right on, right on the corner of Sixth Avenue and 20- 24th Street.

Yeah.

In February 2002, the band released its first studio album, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, after signing with Equal Vision Records.

Influenced by the post-hardcore group At The Drive-In, the band's first release also featured a guest appearance from Dr.

No of the hardcore punk band Bad Brains, as well as the revised Delirium Trigger 33 and Junesong Provision from the Delirium Trigger EP.

Mate.

Right, my third album came out on October 31st, 2001, Equal Vision Records.

That was a good label back in the day.

Was it? Was the-

Let me go post-emo with synths and some scrams, leanings, but also pretty accessible.

And I just want to say, because this stuff largely wasn't for me, but whether people know it or not... there's a lot of early two thousands equal vision records that bleeds into and across so much of man.

Uh, I mean, look, certainly the softer side of emo, certainly some of the screamier stuff, certainly some of the more modern hardcore stuff, especially when it goes melodic.

And if you want to ask why, you know, in the same way they say, what happened to spiky jacket? What happened to melodic hardcore? Well, um, Three whole generations were raised up on the Thursdays, the Circus Survives, the Coheed and Cambria, and then some of the more deep cut EVR stuff and not even deep cut, but stuff I'm not familiar with.

And, uh, then you guys decide to reunite.

Um, and put another record out, you wind up signing with equal vision, kind of bring me through the reunion thought process.

And, and of course, uh, equal vision, was there any other labels that were interested as well? And kind of just bring me through the, the re re

re uniting

of the band.

Yeah.

Uh, Jeff is also a graphic designer and works in the film industry now.

And they would release one more record, Now is What Matters Now, in 2014 on Equal Vision.

And in 2026 they have a brand-new single out.

So there'll be a two-song seven-inch single, I believe, coming out this year from Game Face, so they're not done yet, so.
