Bruce Shelley left Microprose in 1992, taking what he learned building civilization to Ensemble Studios, where he'd helped shape the Age of Empires series into its own genre-defining franchise.

Sid Meier, to his credit, stayed just long enough to see civilization through in 96, working this time with a new design partner, Brian Reynolds, before Microprose's eventual sale and that restructuring pushed him out entirely.
