It's been four long months, but this weekend sees the return of proper Saturday afternoons.

But I'm starting with energy prices this week.

Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, fuel prices at the pumps continue to rise and Energia last week became the latest domestic player to increase its electricity and gas prices.

So a winter of discontent potentially lies ahead, with the government scrambling to put together support packages for the budget on October 6th.

Myrna Lynch is Senior Research Officer at the ESRI and an energy expert, and she joined me in studio to give me her view on the outlook for energy prices both over the short and long term.

But one of the more worrying things to say is if we look at kind of the futures markets, so forward markets and futures market for oil and gas, they're not looking pretty right now.

So while nobody can predict the future, what we can say is no one is expecting this conflict and no one is expecting the impact on energy prices to ease off anytime soon, unfortunately.

Yeah, OK. Energia became the latest of the big players to increase domestic energy prices last week by between 5% and 10%, a bit more on the gas side, I think, than on the electricity side.

And they were following on from the likes of Electric Ireland, which is owned by ESB, Borgosch and others who've increased their prices.
