On this episode of the Breeders' Blueprint podcast, we shift gears and get the view from the other side of the sale ring when I sit down with Elders stud stock agent Anthony Ball.

Anthony has reached the very top of the stud industry selling cattle and I thoroughly enjoyed his unique perspective.

And I went, oh, well, bugger it, let's have a go.

So I rang a local agent up in town, a little private agent in Melinda at the time, and I did my licence, my auctioneer's licence, and he gave me a go.

and then there was not enough room in the business to pay me for a full time job I should say and then I was lucky enough a fellow by the name of Kevin Curry who was with Ray White for a long time he gave a recommendation to Landmark and I started in Landmark in Mareeba when I was about 22 I think it was about 2008 I started and that was it and that's Yeah, I've started commercially and spent a few years in Mareeba and a little bit of time in Rockhampton, transferred into Studstock, spent a bit of time in Toowoomba for a few years with a Studstock down there with Landmark, came back to Charters Towers, did sort of nine months in Charters Towers, had a little break from the agency game for a year or two and then received a phone call from Paul Holm, who was the estate manager at Elders at the time and he asked me what I was up to and I said, look, I'd really like to get back into stud stock.

I was missing it and he offered me a job in Charters Towers and I said, no, no, it's got to be a job in stud stock and then he rang back a little while later and said, look, I've got you a job in stud stock and so I grabbed it and started working with Elders under Michael Smith and Blake Munro and One of the other conditions was I wanted to do it from North Queensland.

Hello, my name is Yvonne Weldon.

I would like to pay my respects to all Elders past and present and everyone here tonight.

The Eora Nation's boundaries are the Hawkes River in the north, the Nepean in the west and the Georges River in the south.

My people represent hundreds of nations, tribes and clans, from Frio to Sydney and everywhere in between.

Well, I've been in the game in real estate for over 20 years.

I won't go into too much detail, but I started back in 2004 with Elders Real Estate in the Clare Valley.

In 2007, I bought my first franchise on the York Peninsula and ran that for 10 years.

Then I decided to get out of that, had a bit of a rest for a while, and then had an opportunity to join Chris Waterman at Waterman Property Advocates as a buyer's advocate.

Our guest today, Dennis Scanlon.

Dennis, moving on, you worked for some of the biggies and let's go to the red shirt, a position with Elders.

Tell us about what you did with Elders.

Well, Elders was a company I was fully familiar with and worked alongside of in every sale yard I ever went to because I was also buying quite a lot of cattle for Fred Keogh in the sale yards.

and in the paddock through elders.

And I mean, the whole meat industry knew who I was because Fred Keong was one of the biggest operators in that southern Queensland area and had always had the biggest flair, the biggest bluff, and the biggest money.

And you started in

that role as? So I started, uh, at Elders Real Estate in Mandurah.

So, and then, and great.

So there was a Craig Hardman, Renee Hardman were, were the owners.

And, and it really, that, that affected myself, that affected my business partner.

Uh, and we, we had a decision to make, uh, to, to, to move to, to Harcourt's.

And, um, yeah, there was a gentleman in Harcourt's by the name of Ray Armstrong and he was the CEO for Elders.

So, and then he became the recruitment and, uh, manager for, uh, for, for Harcourt's.

And then I became a branch manager at Moree a couple of years after that.

Then I actually left Elders for a bit and started, because I wanted to stay in Morea at the time.

Elders were looking for me to move to a town that I didn't want to go to, bigger location in their mind, but not a career path I wanted to go down.

So to stay in Morea, to leave Elders at that time, and I ran...

I became the operations manager for Sandy Munro's business, which is Wee Bola Bola, well known.

It was a very big business and really good fun there.

He had an ownership portion, a grain business in town, a grain processing facility, a grain marketing facility.

So there was a lot of fun in that and a lot of development for me in that, and I learned a lot of things there.
