[sniffs] DoorDash will pay $131.5 million to settle claims that it underpaid delivery workers in New York City.

Mayor Zahran Mamdani announced the agreement.

City Hall described the deal as the largest worker settlement in its history.

In a statement, DoorDash admitted errors, saying, quote, "Simply put, we screwed up." Researchers have discovered a new species they're calling the fire amoeba.

As NPR's Ari Daniel reports, it can grow and replicate at temperatures never seen for complex organisms.

The fire amoeba was found in a tributary of Lassen Volcanic National Park in Northern California.

The Grammy and Golden Globe-nominated actor died last month at the age of thirty-six.

DoorDash says, quote, "We screwed up." The food delivery company issued a statement admitting to mistakes when it came to paying its New York City employees.

Mayor Zarin Mamdani announced DoorDash had agreed to pay one hundred thirty-one point five million dollars to settle claims.

City Hall says most of the settlement will be returned to more than two hundred and sixty thousand workers who were underpaid, not paid, or paid late for deliveries.

Researchers have discovered a new species they're calling the fire amoeba.

Investors worry artificial intelligence tools will disrupt financial advisory firms and hit their margins.

And DoorDash agreed to pay one hundred and thirty-one and a half million dollars to settle an investigation by New York City regulators after admitting they underpaid and missed payments for delivery workers.

Shares of the food delivery service fell less than a percent.

The online delivery company also agreed to a three-year monitoring program to ensure it's complying with local delivery laws.

In a statement, DoorDash said the errors weren't intentional, but added, quote, "Simply put, we screwed up." Well, on Wall Street today, stocks ended mixed following the latest fall in oil prices.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped almost 200 points.

The NASDAQ added nearly half a percent.

It was the brands that were showing up on, on social.

And no, this isn't about e-bikes or cutting in and out of traffic, none of that.

This is about their pay.

Mayor Mamdani came out swinging today on behalf of the 200,000-plus DoorDash delivery workers here in the city who he says are getting slammed on their pay.

And this isn't the first time he's swung.

It's just a hot topic today because DoorDash has agreed, listen to me, to fork over $131.5 million to settle allegations it underpaid New York delivery workers.

The mayor calls it historic.

Nationwide, there have been around 3,470 confirmed cases of measles.

And DoorDash says it has reached a settlement with New York City after an investigation found the food delivery company underpaid workers.

The settlement following similar legal battles between the city and rivals, including Grubhub and Uber Eats.

The $131 million settlement comes months after the city accused DoorDash and rival Uber Eats of deliberately depriving workers of more than $550 million in tips.

DoorDash said underpaying and paying delivery workers too late had been a mistake.

The company said that some errors resulted from deliveries that crossed city lines, had multiple pick-up or drop-off locations, or were only partially fulfilled or canceled.

DoorDash added other mistakes resulted from tech issues or incomplete banking information for workers.

The company says it has fixed those issues.
