And it kind of shows that Meyer and Staggs have had the worst possible luck here.
D
6:05David MumpowerHOST
Because you have to realize, Staggs, when he left Disney in 2015, the big story at the time was Disney had just gone all in on something we've discussed before called Maker Studios.
D
6:16David MumpowerHOST
Maker Studios, Disney spent about $650 million to acquire, and it was going to be a bunch of influencers who were going to provide Disney content.
D
6:25David MumpowerHOST
And it all blew up because some of the talent they bet on, we're not going to get into names here, but let's just say they turned out to be controversial figures.
D

And just on top of that, it was too early in the game for that.

And the big thing in my mind that I think means will happen, if you'll remember a few weeks ago, we talked about the fact that Warner Brothers was dragging their feet on signing a deal for a Barbie sequel because they weren't sure about the budget and they didn't have a full idea of what the script is this guy was the head of Mattel when Barbie was made at Warner Brothers so he officially was the one who partnered with Mattel to make that movie so it wouldn't shock me if one of the absolute first things that we see out of this merger is that they will announce that they have budgeted and greenlit the sequel for the Barbie movie because that would be big splashy news it would be a sign of just like hey look we just took over and we're already making this big move i would be shocked if that wasn't something that was announced uh basically as soon as the deal is signed i it actually wouldn't surprise me if the day they signed the deal they're not like okay this merger is officially closed and by the way as our first act of business we're announcing that we greenlit barbie 2 with greta gerwig And Margot Robbie and everybody, we're going to pay them and we're going to make the movie because people will, I think a lot of people will be excited about that.
