Design Council

So don't forget about season two.

And we in this compilation have conversations with Design Council, with Rachel Bronstein and Professor Dafina van Dittmar, and creative technologist Jude Pullen, who talked about the skills we need to design for the planet and how we can do more than just less harm to the environment through understanding design's role in the regeneration of the planet, culture, and biodiversity.

If you're a designer listening, then my main takeaway would be that you absolutely do have the ability to change things for the better and to design for planet in your work.

You have the ability to influence.

But what I can do is maybe give you some evidence that will help you out with this." And that's the point at which I point them to the DVIs, and that's a Design Value Index.

And I think the first ones, uh, were actually done by the Design Council in London.

Design Council is a government entity- That is designed to be able to help and support the design community.

And, uh, what they did was they took a total of 63 different companies, uh, in Great Britain that had a lot of focus on marketing and design specifically, and they measured them against the FTSE 100.

And that, the FTSE is a Financial Times Stock Exchange.

And Tim led to developing the kind of prospect for the program.

So the program is funded by the CIWM and our partners are WRAP, and the Circular Economy Institute, as well as the Design Council in relationship to their Skills for Planet mission.

And embedding circularity is one of the six green skills areas that they're looking to upskill designers in over the next four years.

So really the main aims of the Design Skills for Embedding Circularity program is to look at the challenges and the opportunities around circularity and recovering materials.

And I think that's really all thanks to the CIWM.

You know, it's great that they've been able to fund this mission.

And it's great that we've got the design council on board.

to really start to kind of stress test how we embed green skills as common everyday practice.

The framework that structures this work is the Double Diamond, created by the British Design Council in two thousand and six.

It models the approach to discovery, definition, and design phases as a continuous flow of learning and making.

This structure prevents teams from jumping straight to solutions without first understanding the problem space.
