You name the chip company, the networking, the software company, the storage company like VAST, DDN, WEKA, and Ne- NetApp, among others, Dell, they're all suppliers to the intelligence production.

That is the key that's coming out of these factories.

And when people understand that, they go, "Great.

So before we reveal our sources, here's this episode's three-point briefing.

Number one, today's guest, Jeff Denworth, has spent more than two decades in the data world, with leadership stops at DDN and Cetera before co-founding Vast Data in 2016.

Number two, today, Vast Data is valued at $30 billion.

That's the most valuable private data infrastructure software company in history.

But while setup integration, failure recovery, and long-term support for DAOS are all improving, there are mature products out there that have gone through many years of operational engineering to get there.

For example, Google introduced DAOS-based Parallelstore but is retiring it in favor of DDN-based managed Lustre.

Google has similar commercial arrangements with NetApp for storage, VMware for virtualization, and Oracle for databases, so that by itself is not so unusual.

One possible factor in Google's decision is a weakness in automated multi-level storage tiering in DAOS that makes it hard to tier down to lower cost storage and requires explicit data movement, which in a public cloud environment can run into bandwidth, operational overhead, and associated costs.

Because November will kick off for us with AI Infrastructure Field Day number six.
