That's just lovely.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
199:44
yeah okay so what i want to say real quick about content uh before we do last super chats is i completely forgot the whole casket of souls thing um yeah yeah we all everyone's like oh haha dj content no i want y'all to understand how genius the guys over at creative assembly are where also games workshop has gone oh yeah old world you can now put your lich priest on casket of souls because that makes sense even though ca did it first but first of all uh the original casket of souls is literally just stolen straight from the indian jones movie it's the ark of the covenant and they carry it and then eighth edition was like well we're gonna try to make it a little more special so eighth edition i i want to i want to just i'm not gonna read it out because we don't have time but i'm just gonna tell you so eighth edition completely reworked the casket of souls to say no they don't carry it it's a magical casket that's kept inside every tomb king's pyramid that has the souls of the people he hates but they teleport And the way they teleport is that there is a member of the mortuary cult called a keeper of the casket.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
200:42
Whose whole job is that he knows incantations that are exclusive to his sect of the mortuary cult.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
200:48
And he lets out this chant and it causes a whirlpool of bones and emerging out of it is the casket of souls.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
204:28
Thank you.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
204:29
Parmesia, yeah, Total War lore.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
204:31
Woohoo! I congratulate Creative Assembly's team's efforts on Warhammer Fantasy.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
204:36
They definitely looked at the characters and to the world from a third window and they fixed after they identified where it needed to be adjusted.
Matthew Seiji BurnsGUEST
35:59
This one's actually pretty interesting.
Matthew Seiji BurnsGUEST
36:03
An early version of Total War by Creative Assembly.
Matthew Seiji BurnsGUEST
36:07
Yes, because before Creative Assembly was bought by Sega, they had published some of their games through Activision.
Matthew Seiji BurnsGUEST
36:14
And so Total War, I think Medieval Total War and Rome Total War came through Activision.
Matthew Seiji BurnsGUEST
36:21
And so I had actually tested on those as well.
AndyHOST
39:43
But guys, something absolutely nuts is happening in the gaming industry right now.
AndyHOST
39:47
So Sega just released a remaster of Shogun 2, Creative Assembly, I should say.
AndyHOST
39:53
And it was so bad that they had to pull it from sale in like two days.
AndyHOST
39:58
Okay.
AndyHOST
40:23
It's interesting because we're seeing this renaissance of modders with no prior experience looking and using AI to create some pretty crazy stuff for this game.
AndyHOST
40:31
So now in Total War Warhammer, you can run around and use a Glock or like, you know, different like a PPSH or a machine gun, all that kind of stuff.
AndyHOST
40:40
and sniper rifles that you could buy with gold just crazy stuff so the modders have turned total war warhammer into a first-person shooter and in shogun 2 you can now actually inhabit the soldiers on the battlefield and it is super cool because it's kind of like you get that mountain blade experience uh which is great you know a lot of people play mountain blade because they're total war fans but they want to be you know boots on the ground with it and so basically you what happened is creative assembly released this shogun 2 you know remaster and the graphic i like the graphics identity was completely stripped so if you've played uh you know the trilogy like from grand theft auto it's kind of like how the identity of the game was completely removed it was kind of like another one of those except worse because the game was prone to crashing uh so if you don't know about total war shogun 2 i'm a huge fan of the total war franchise i've played total war Shogun 2 specifically over and over again for their Fall of the Samurai DLC, which is chef's kiss.
AndyHOST
41:33
Outstanding.
Jeff GrubbHOST
42:15
All right.
Jeff GrubbHOST
42:15
Creative Assembly says the disastrous Shogun 2 remaster bypassed its normal oversight.
Jeff GrubbHOST
42:21
I mean, we're going to be able to copy and paste this story a million times in the next couple of years, Sean.
Jeff GrubbHOST
42:26

Jeff GrubbHOST
42:26
23rd statement, Creative Assembly's Roger Cullum said that the complete edition was externally developed and did not undergo Creative Assembly's usual internal reviews and quality assurance.
Jeff GrubbHOST
42:37
This is what led to things like That samurai character being generatively AI'd into this detail-less statue that just had a couple of notches there where her face used to be.
Jeff GrubbHOST
42:52
That's just one example of the issues with the game.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
28:27
Now, Nagash is the one that I'm going to very frankly say we're going to talk the least about because...
Ryan ShelanderHOST
28:35
While he's incredibly fun to play, the lore tidbits and all the stuff that Creative Assembly gave us for him in his Total War campaign, he has by far kind of the least interesting story.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
28:48
There's not a whole lot to it, and when you play through all of his stuff, it's very, very straightforward.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
28:54
It doesn't even really follow the End Times narrative.

27 MINS LATER

Ryan ShelanderHOST
55:49
And that is, of all of the characters that received new lore goodies in this entire update and DLC, the Glotkin have the absolute best.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
56:05
Like, over, by miles, they have the best writing.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
56:12
I don't know why Creative Assembly went so ham on the Glotkin versus all of the other characters.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
56:20
Maybe it was due to the issue that the Glotkin don't have as much as all of the other characters, so they felt more compelled to fill them in.
Colin KohlhovenHOST
21:42
In particular, I want to shout out, and you made a note of it too, that some of the...
Colin KohlhovenHOST
21:46
I think there's more than one person, but... specifically John McKellen, who was the writer and director for this game, worked at Creative Assembly on alien isolation.
Colin KohlhovenHOST
21:56
And I think that there were a couple other folks at Screen Burn who also worked on alien isolation as well.
Colin KohlhovenHOST
22:02
It's very evident in the gameplay and in the style of game that they're going for here in the way that you interact or do not interact with enemies, things like that.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
19:57
Folks were very angry about this as it meant they had to hypothetically install over 130GB of data just to play the port, and launch it from the Ace Combat 8 executable, well, no longer.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
20:07
Speaking of releases gone wrong, do you guys see this Total War Shogun 2 stuff? Sega released a complete edition port of the excellent Grand Strategy game from Creative Assembly, but it sure as hell did not go down too well.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
20:17
On Steam, the game hit overwhelmingly negative very quickly on account of bugs, poor mod support, and strong accusations of using generative AI to upscale some of the assets.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
20:25
The optics for this were even worse due to the fact that Sega removed the original game from Steam.
AlHOST
15:48
I mean, we can't say, well, just because something's got screenshots which don't match the gameplay or whether there's blatant AI use, it's a scam.
AlHOST
15:55
Because we've got reputable developers... of what used to be reputable developers in Creative Assembly, recent games which they've had to pull from sale because of the huge backlash due to the...
AlHOST
16:09
And I think it is down to the amount of AI that's been used in the remastering of the games.
AlHOST
16:14
That certainly seems to have been the charge which has been levelled against CA with Shogun 2, isn't it? The images are...
MartyrusHOST
22:51
And it is from the game Alien Isolation.
MartyrusHOST
22:55
Developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega.
MartyrusHOST
23:00
And it was on Sony PlayStation 3 and 4, Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 and One, the Nintendo Switch, Apple OS X and iOS.
MartyrusHOST
23:11
Google Android, and Linux.
MartyrusHOST
27:18
However, Alien Isolation was highly praised on several levels.
MartyrusHOST
27:23
First and foremost was the use of source material.
MartyrusHOST
27:27
According to an archived article from Electronic Gaming Monthly, Josh Harmon notes, "...where the creative assembly really captures the spirit of the Alien universe is the actual experience of playing Isolation." It's a lot of little things.
MartyrusHOST
27:43
The perfectly recreated environments, the look and feel of the retro-futuristic technology and interface, and one very, very big thing.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
37:58
Yeah, and he's 100% right.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
38:02
I've sat in on discussions and had back and forths with members of Creative Assembly about their game and how they try and interpret things, and they're like, hey, we found this book, and our community would love to see this feature implemented based on this book, and we'd love to do that.
Ryan ShelanderHOST
38:19
It's like a printed book that came from Games Workshop, and Games Workshop will look at it and go, no, that doesn't fit our current concept of what Warhammer is.
Andy LawHOST
38:28
And that current concept is often is changeable.
