I am your host, Jon Durante, and it gives me great pleasure to welcome Jason McGrath, who's the vice president for enrollment management at the College of Wooster.

Jason, it is so good to see you again.

I'm so glad that we got a chance to spend some time together when we were in person at NACAC.

Well, it's my honor and pleasure, and again, it's thanks to people like yourself and all of your colleagues that come on that allow me to do this work that has been so rewarding and truly so much fun.

So let's get right to it, Jason.

For listeners who may not be familiar with the College of Wooster, could you begin by sharing the core mission and educational philosophy that guide the institution, and what makes Wooster stand out among national liberal arts colleges?

I appreciate this question, and I think it's one of the ones that I, I think can get a little bit too theoretical at times, so I'm gonna go and kinda cut to the chase that I think defines us really well.

What drew you to that?

Well, um, you know, I w- I studied at the College of Wooster, and first when I got to school, there was a boy during orientation I had a crush on, so I said I was going to do religious studies because he was in religious studies.

[laughs]

Um, and then I was like, "I don't know what I want to do." 'Cause I did art, geography, and literature for A levels, so that's always been, like, my forte.

Now what that meant was I had about a 45-minute conversation with Adam Miller, who's the chief enrollment officer at, uh, at Whitman, and we really went deep into talking about money.

At the time, uh, Ron Lieber had really come out from The, from The New York Times and had really elevated College of Wooster and Whitman because of what they're doing with financial transparency and letting, doing a full tax re- review for people even if they didn't apply, which is going way, way, way beyond a net price calculator.

So we, I know we were talking a lot about that.

We got really in the weeds.
