I love this thing.

I had a Cleveland original highbore.

with a graphalloi blue X.

It was awesome.

and you hated that one, and then you got one that you liked, and you hated it.

I remember that a lot back in the day, but now they've done a, and it's not hard to educate yourself on this.

If you go to any of the brand's websites, if you go to Cleveland's website, if you go to Vokey's website, they tell you why the grind is what it is.

Like, hey, this is for if you like to do this, or this is, and now once again, you just have to kind of be honest with yourself and go, hey, I like to open the face a bit, and that's kind of how, like, okay, cool.

The metal crack that his driver made was incredible.

And it's this club that he's...

Like an old highbore club.

It's something that's hands-on and you're interacting with.

And um, was fortunate enough to push my way into Cleveland golf at the time.

This was 20 years ago, um, as a research engineer.

And, um, I actually did kind of move around within some engineering, different disciplines, but, uh, I've been back for quite some time and combining those two things has allowed me to, you know, work on product I care about and, um, as well as where I've, you know, have experience in education and, Um, it's been great.

Does the math work? What should the math be? And that led to us measuring a bunch of shafts, setting up templates.

eventually, you know, got paired in with some Miyazaki work with SRI years later and, um, some of the flex code work that got on there.

So that's one that is just, you mentioned origin story, but that one that just, you know, feels like, you know, one of those good old days, like I was part of starting our early understanding of EI profiles and, you know, shaft, um, influences shaft deflection, um, and But otherwise, I mean, I've worked on Cleveland wedges and putters, worked on Srixon product, always been very close to sound, the impact sound.

I was a research engineer through the... geometry phase of drivers, right? The square drivers, the high bore inverted crown drivers for us.

This is the feel I like.

I bought, I had played Vokey wedges for quite a few years and then I switched to Cleveland and I was like, I love this.

It's just a different feel, a little bit different weight in the head that I liked, a little more control on some of the longer shots because the heads were just a little bit heavier.

And then for the TaylorMade, the heads are even heavier and I didn't like that.

We've got an exciting topic, and you are the man to discuss the brand-new Strixon drivers.

We have a Japanese R&D team.

Kind of the Shrixon brand came from Japan.

Cleveland came from the U.S. And as we've kind of molded the two brands together, we want to do kind of rethink how the Strixon product should be focused to this U.S. market and the PGA Tour.

So this is probably the biggest step forward we've had with the woods.

The source explicitly points to 1990 when Cleveland introduced the 53 degree dyadic wedge, officially documenting the gap wedge concept.

And this sequence of events is really what drives us into the modern era of wedge design.

The lofts in the bag are completely filled now.

But yeah, just basically put enough grip tape solution.

What I learned from going to the Cleveland or Strixon headquarters and watching them putting grips on is they use tons of grip solution.

So you can't really put too much on.

I think that's the thing.

You don't want to be liberal with it.

And if you do that and you get lots of solution on, it's actually dead easy it'll slip on fairly easily and you can move them with plenty of grip tape solution on you can move them straighten them up get your alignment you can like you don't need to do it what was the way I'd put it you don't need to do it in the standard way you can sit the putter grip whatever way you want you can do that with your own grips as well on your clubs you can put them effectively around the wrong way and you'll feel like a different ridge line where your fingers are so lots of different ways to do it I'm pretty standard with my own grips on my clubs and on my putter I've gone through experiments of other types but yeah dead easy honestly if you've got a decent grip tape solution and you just have a wee bit of patience when you're doing it you can whip on a new grip in about 30 seconds to a minute it's not that hard

nice yeah I've got the Cleveland Frontline Purr just now.

It looks a bit like the Spider, the tailor-made Spider that a lot of the pros use.
